The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey, United States. They are a member of the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was established in 1974 as the Kansas City Scouts, and later relocated to Denver, Colorado, where they were known as the Colorado Rockies. In 1982, the franchise moved to New Jersey and became the Devils, a name that pays homage to the legend of the Jersey Devil, a mythical creature said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of New Jersey.
