Here in New Jersey, we’re all about community, connection, and making a real difference. And nothing exemplifies that spirit more beautifully than the recent heartwarming event that unfolded at the Boys & Girls Club of Newark. On June 4th, 2025, just ahead of the highly anticipated UFC 316 event in Newark, a truly special gathering took place, bringing together some of our most celebrated athletes to inspire the next generation.
Imagine the excitement when two powerhouses of New Jersey sports, the New Jersey Devils and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), joined forces for an unforgettable day. Stepping off the ice and into the hearts of Newark’s youth were none other than Devils stars Stefan Noesen and Kurtis MacDermid. But they weren’t alone! They were accompanied by an incredible lineup of UFC athletes, a true testament to the diverse talent that graces our state.
The roster of UFC heroes was nothing short of legendary. We saw the iconic Frankie Edgar, a true UFC Hall of Famer and a New Jersey native who embodies grit and determination. Joining him were fan favorites like Ode Osbourne, the high-flying UFC Flyweight; Sean Brady, the formidable UFC Welterweight; and Cory Sandhagen, the dynamic UFC Bantamweight. What a dream team!
The purpose of their visit to the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, located at 1 Avon Ave, was clear: to connect, engage, and inspire. These incredible athletes didn’t just show up; they actively participated with the children, sharing stories, laughter, and perhaps even a few pointers! It was a day filled with interactive activities, where the kids had the unique opportunity to interact directly with their heroes, ask questions, and soak up invaluable life lessons. The message was clear: dedication, hard work, and good sportsmanship are keys to success, no matter what path you choose.
This impactful event quickly resonated across social media platforms, from Facebook to Instagram and YouTube, showcasing the powerful synergy between professional sports organizations and community outreach. The images and videos captured that day truly highlighted the positive ripple effect of this collaboration – a perfect example of what makes our “Humane State” so special. In fact, the commitment from UFC extends even further, with a generous donation of equipment to the Boys & Girls Club’s program, ensuring that the positive impact of this visit continues long after the athletes have left.
This heartwarming initiative is just one more reason why New Jersey stands out. It’s a reminder that beyond the bright lights and thrilling competitions, there’s a deep-seated commitment to nurturing our communities and empowering our youth.
