Morris Museum 2026 Back Deck Presents Bria Skonberg

August 26 @ 7:30 PM
Free

Canadian born, New York based trumpeter, vocalist, and songwriter Bria Skonberg has been called the shining hope of hot jazz by The New York Times, on the strength of a clarion trumpet style indebted to Louis Armstrong and a smooth, smoky singing voice inspired by Anita O’Day. Described by The Wall Street Journal as one of the most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation, Skonberg earned her degree in Jazz Trumpet Performance from Capilano University in Vancouver before becoming a co-founder of the New York Hot Jazz Festival. A Juno Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album, her music has been streamed more than 25 million times, and she has performed alongside U2, Jon Batiste, and the Dave Matthews Band, and once sang the national anthem at Madison Square Garden for a New York Rangers game. Bringing her blistering trumpet playing and compelling original compositions to the Morris Museum’s Back Deck series, Skonberg offers an evening blending classic and new jazz traditions.
