RENEE MASKIN:
Known for her distinctive voice, literally and artistically, Renee Maskin is a staple of the thriving music scene in Asbury Park, NJ. With three solo LPs released in three years, her prolific output pulls from a deep well of influence, from country, to garage, to modern indie-rock.
Maskin has notably opened for a wide range of acts, including Jon Langford (Mekons), William Tyler, Del Amitri, Tyler Ramsey, and notably toured with her former group, Lowlight, in support of The Pretenders. Maskin was named “Songwriter of the Year 2023” by New Jersey Stage Magazine. Her most recent LP, Shimmer, was named one of 2023’s National Top Albums by The Aquarian.
BLUSH:
Blush is an Asbury Park based band that plays groovy indie rock with notes of pop, blues, and funk. The band consists of Jon Bass on drums, Jackie Flanders on keys, Evan Hutchins on guitar, and Joy Morgan on bass and was formed in September of 2023. Influences are the B-52s, The Doors, Ben Folds, The Beatles, Talking Heads, and No Doubt.
THE HARD MAYBES:
The Hard Maybes are like the sound of Pop Rocks being poured into an ice cold glass of Coca Cola; unmistakably familiar but tough to pin down.
They marry girl group gravitas with gritty indie style in way that no one else in the New Jersey scene seems to be able to do quite so effectively. And for that, they’ve earned themselves a standout place within it, despite only having made their debut in 2022. Lead vocalist Harley Cunha sings like the most left-swiped Disney Princess on the Internet. But rest assured, there are no Tinder Kings in these songs and the band’s no-effs-given attitude makes that abundantly clear.
THE FOES OF FERN:
The Foes of Fern are an Asbury Park-based band that is known for performing an exhilarating blend of genres, once referred to as “Soulful Multilayered Organic Indie Folk Rock” by music venue, The Saint.
Marrying drums, bass, guitar, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, among other instruments, The Foes bring the party to Asbury Park, playing at many of the local music venues including The Stone Pony, Wonder Bar, Asbury Lanes, and Low Dive. On June 16th, 2023, The Foes of Fern released their second studio album, “Rerun.” Their first album, “Carpe Diem”, was released in August 2020. You can listen to both on Spotify. The Foes of Fern are represented by Telegraph Hill Records.
