The Wallflowers

The Wallflowers are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1989 by singer-songwriter Jakob Dylan and guitarist Tobi Miller, born in New York City as the youngest of four children to Bob Dylan and Sara Lowndes. Jakob has always been reluctant to discuss his famous father in interviews, wanting to make his own name rather than trade on the family legacy, and The Wallflowers made clear early on that he had a sound and creative voice entirely his own. After a poorly selling 1992 self-titled debut got the band dropped from Virgin Records, Dylan regrouped with a new lineup and signed with Interscope, recording 1996’s Bringing Down the Horse with producer and family friend T Bone Burnett. The album became a multi-platinum, Grammy-winning breakthrough behind the singles 6th Avenue Heartache and One Headlight, the latter landing at number 58 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 greatest pop songs of all time. The band’s sound walks a tightrope between rootsy alternative rock and the arena-friendly heartland sound of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. After several hiatuses, the band reunited for 2012’s Glad All Over and 2021’s Exit Wounds, and continues touring behind a catalog that spans more than three decades.
