The FIXX

September 4 @ 7:30 PM
Free

College friends Cy Curnin on vocals and Adam Woods on drums formed the band in London in 1979, initially calling themselves Portraits before settling on The Fixx. In their early 1980s heyday, the band never cracked the UK Top 50 but became a significant presence on MTV, Top 40, and AOR radio in America. Their breakthrough came with 1983’s Reach the Beach, produced by Rupert Hine and certified Platinum, which delivered the band’s biggest ever hit, One Thing Leads to Another, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one in Canada. Curnin has described the song, which deals with malleable, dishonest politicians, as a piece he remains proud of decades later. The band toured stadiums with The Police for three months following that breakthrough, playing to a million and a half people. Other hits including Saved By Zero, Are We Ourselves?, and Secret Separation each cracked the Billboard Top 20, and the band has remained one of the few early-80s new wave acts to regularly tour and record into the 2020s.
