Samara Joy & Her Septet

Samara Joy has emerged as one of the most captivating new voices in jazz, bringing a fresh perspective to a beloved tradition. A native of the Bronx who cut her teeth singing in her church’s gospel choir, Joy didn’t delve into jazz until college at SUNY Purchase, where she won the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Her Verve debut Linger Awhile earned her the Grammy for Best New Artist, and her latest album, Portrait, earned her the 2026 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
