KATALYST Collective Closes Their Ten Year Tour with a Triumphant Blue Note New York Debut

Every decade or so a new band comes along and changes the course of music, and this decade has seen the rise of KATALYST, one of the most talented and diverse collectives of musicians, writers, composers, and producers working today. The brainchild of world-renowned drummer, composer, and producer Greg Paul, this nine-piece ensemble hailing from Inglewood, California showcases an eclectic mix of experimental, contemporary jazz-funk, and soul, comprising pianist Brandon Cordoba, saxophonist David Otis, Grammy Award winning trombonist Jonah Levine, keyboardist Brian Hargrove, percussionist Ahmad Dubose, upright bassist Corbin Jones, bass guitarist Marlon Spears, and founder Greg Paul on drums. Their critically acclaimed 2020 debut, Nine Lives, born from impromptu Sunday jam sessions at their Inglewood home base, captured the pulse of Los Angeles, and the group has since performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and founded #Inglewoodstock, a popup concert series spotlighting the city’s most talented bands, rappers, and vocalists. Having previously performed for the New Jersey jazz community at Clements Place Jazz at Rutgers University-Newark, Katalyst returns to the region to close out ten years together with a milestone debut at the legendary Blue Note in New York City.
