One of the best things I saw happen was a participant and player go from not being able to hold a volleyball on day one to scoring many points in the Winter Gold Medal Game,” says Don Lichterman about that experience. He goes on to say, “One of the best feelings I have ever had in my life, let alone during the experience, was when one of the players’ family members approached me, praising how we handled everyone,” and then asked me, “How many years have you been doing this type of work?” I had to explain that “it was only 6 weeks at that time.” But overall, everyone wants to be on the same playing field, so to speak. “That is how I approach every human: to be real on all levels and with anyone and everyone,” and that it is up to everyone to act like themselves, and I respond accordingly.
