Brilliant has described starting the business, then operating under the name Brilliant Lewis, out of his own apartment closet back in November 2005, a workspace that doubled as his office in the firm’s earliest days. Asked what the highlight of his career at the company has been, Brilliant has pointed not to a signature project but to rebuilding the firm after a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing that followed the pandemic and the broader social unrest of that period, a period he has described candidly as one of the harder stretches the company weathered. He has also been open about an earlier misstep, saying that not launching the firm as a sole owner in 2006 cost him roughly four years of momentum once an early partnership eventually dissolved, a setback he and his team worked through to rebuild the business on their own terms.

That candor extends to how Brilliant talks about where the company goes from here. Asked what he hopes for heading into the firm’s next twenty years, his answer was simple: twenty more.
