Few catalogs run as deep, or as personally intertwined, as those of James Taylor, Carly Simon, and Carole King. On Friday, December 4, that shared history gets a full theatrical treatment at The Vogel with Taylor Simon King, a production built entirely around three of American songwriting’s most enduring careers.

The show pulls from an extraordinary well of material, songs like “Country Road,” “Shower the People,” and “You’ve Got a Friend” from James Taylor, a six time Grammy winner, “Anticipation,” “You’re So Vain,” and “Mockingbird” from Carly Simon, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer with thirteen top forty hits to her name, and “How Sweet It Is,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” and “It’s Too Late” from Carole King, whose songwriting credits include an almost unbelievable 118 Billboard Hot 100 pop hits. These aren’t three unrelated artists grouped together for convenience either. Their personal lives and careers genuinely intertwined for decades, making this pairing feel less like a random tribute mashup and more like a coherent piece of American music history.

Produced by an Actual Oscar Winner

The production carries serious industry credentials behind the scenes. It’s produced by Franke Previte, an Oscar and Golden Globe winner who co-wrote “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” and “Hungry Eyes” from Dirty Dancing, two songs that need no introduction of their own. The show is managed by Lee Shapiro, former music director for Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, giving this production a level of professional pedigree well beyond a typical tribute act assembled for the road.

Three iconic American singer-songwriters whose personal lives and careers have intertwined throughout the years, and whose memorable hit songs continue to offer ageless inspiration.

A Cast Built From Serious Musical Pedigree

The show features three powerhouse vocalists, a six piece band, engaging storytelling, and multimedia elements woven throughout the performance. Broadway veteran Lisa Sherman, who has shared the stage with genuine Broadway royalty, leads the vocal lineup alongside singer-songwriter Alice Leon and guitarist James Gedeon, whose interpretation of James Taylor has been described as genuinely remarkable rather than a simple impression. The backing band brings its own considerable résumé, with members who’ve performed alongside The E Street Band, Loggins & Messina, Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny, America, and Billy Joel.

Why This Tribute Stands Apart

Plenty of tribute shows string together familiar hits with little regard for the actual story connecting them. Taylor Simon King does the opposite, leaning into the genuine, decades long relationship between these three songwriters, and pairing that history with musicians who’ve spent their own careers performing alongside some of rock and pop’s biggest names. For anyone raised on the soundtrack these three artists helped define, this is a rare chance to hear that shared songbook performed with real storytelling context behind it.
