Amazon Fresh Expands with New New Jersey Location: A Preview of the Future of Grocery Retail

Amazon Fresh, the rapidly growing physical grocery arm of the e-commerce titan, has captured attention once more with the debut of its new store in Eatontown, New Jersey. This 35,000-square-foot addition represents the chain’s 42nd U.S. store, underscoring its bold expansion strategy despite facing recent challenges.

Redefining Grocery Shopping

The new Eatontown store, which opened on June 20, 2024, stands out as a beacon of Amazon Fresh’s latest design and technology innovations. This latest location features the refreshed design first introduced in August 2023 at two suburban Chicago stores and later rolled out to three Los Angeles sites.

Amazon Fresh is aiming to carve out a significant niche in the grocery sector with features that echo the sophisticated style of its sister brand, Whole Foods Market. According to Amazon’s press release, shoppers at the Eatontown store can look forward to an extensive range of national brands, premium produce, high-quality proteins, and exclusive Amazon private labels such as Aplenty, Fresh Brand, and 365 by Whole Foods Market.

Strategic Expansion

The opening in Eatontown is a significant milestone, reflecting Amazon Fresh’s ongoing commitment to expansion despite recent setbacks. The past year has seen delays and legal complications, including issues with its “Just Walk Out” technology. However, the chain appears to have realigned its strategy, focusing on growth and innovation.

Local reports indicate that the Eatontown store has been in development for two years, with Amazon first announcing plans for this location in June 2022. This delay highlights the complexities involved in launching new retail spaces amidst changing market conditions and regulatory hurdles.

Technological Evolution

Amazon Fresh has also been adjusting its technology strategy. In early April, the company revealed it would be phasing out its “Just Walk Out” checkout system, which allowed customers to bypass traditional checkout lines. Instead, Amazon Fresh is emphasizing its AI-powered Dash Cart, designed to streamline the shopping experience with enhanced features and larger capacity.

The upgraded Dash Cart, introduced in mid-July, offers more than double the storage of previous models and integrates with the Whole Foods Market app for added convenience. This shift is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to improve customer experience and affordability while leveraging cutting-edge technology.

Looking Ahead

With the launch of the Eatontown store, Amazon Fresh now operates 42 locations across states such as California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington. The expansion into New Jersey, where the chain now has two stores, indicates a strategic push to solidify its presence in key markets nationwide.

Regional manager Lionel Triplett expressed enthusiasm about the new store, saying, “We’re excited to open our latest Amazon Fresh grocery store in Monmouth County. We invite Eatontown residents to experience the convenience and quality of Amazon Fresh, both in-store and online.”

As Amazon Fresh continues to evolve, it will be intriguing to see how these developments influence its future growth and market impact. The Eatontown store exemplifies Amazon’s resilience and adaptability, setting the stage for future innovations and further expansion in the dynamic retail landscape.

M. Night Shyamalan From Pennsylvania Settings to New Jersey Locations

When audiences first encounter M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller Knock at the Cabin, they might assume the movie’s chilling scenes unfold in the serene settings of Pennsylvania. However, a closer look reveals that much of the suspenseful action was actually shot in New Jersey. This revelation not only highlights Shyamalan’s penchant for using local landscapes to enhance his narratives but also underscores New Jersey’s growing role as a backdrop for some of the most compelling thrillers and dramas.

The Jersey Shore: A New Horror Hotspot

Shyamalan’s influence in the world of suspense and horror isn’t limited to his films. His television series Servant, known for its gripping and unsettling atmosphere, also took advantage of New Jersey’s picturesque yet eerie locales. The show required several beach scenes, which were filmed against the backdrop of Ocean City, New Jersey. This choice of location perfectly complements the show’s chilling tone, blending serene coastal views with the unsettling narrative.

Chris Gromley, Key Assistant Location Manager for Servant, praised the efficiency of working in New Jersey. He noted, “The experience was fantastic. City officials made it very easy. They streamlined the process and we were given one central point of contact. All our needs were included in the permit (beach and boardwalk filming). This gave our crew great peace of mind when filming.” Gromley’s experience reflects the smooth collaboration between the production team and local authorities, facilitating a seamless filming process.

A Legacy of Locating Fear

Shyamalan’s connection with New Jersey goes beyond Servant. In fact, he has a history of using the state’s unique locales to create atmospheric settings. His 2004 horror film The Village also featured scenes shot in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. This township’s quiet, rural environment provided the perfect backdrop for the film’s tense and isolated atmosphere, further demonstrating Shyamalan’s ability to harness local settings to intensify his narratives.

The Impact on New Jersey’s Film Scene

The choice to film Knock at the Cabin and Servant in New Jersey highlights a growing trend of using the state’s diverse landscapes for film and television production. New Jersey’s mix of urban, suburban, and rural environments offers filmmakers a versatile range of settings that can be adapted to various genres and styles.

As more productions like Shyamalan’s explore the state’s potential, New Jersey is increasingly becoming a preferred location for filmmakers seeking authentic and atmospheric settings. The state’s efficient permitting processes and welcoming local officials further enhance its appeal as a filming destination.

In conclusion, while M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin may be set in Pennsylvania, the real action unfolds in the evocative landscapes of New Jersey. Similarly, Servant leverages the eerie beauty of Ocean City’s beaches to heighten its suspenseful narrative. With New Jersey proving to be an invaluable asset to Shyamalan’s filmmaking, the state continues to cement its role as a key player in the world of film and television production.

Bent Iron Brewing Co. Celebrates Grand Opening in Hamilton

On August 13, 2024, Hamilton Township proudly welcomed its first brewery, Bent Iron Brewing Co., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Jeff Martin, Councilman Anthony Carabelli, County Executive Dan Benson, and Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo.

Located on Extonville Road, this 5,000-square-foot barn sits on a scenic 55-acre farm. The brewery was envisioned by Peter Brittain, Jon Kanuck, and Dave Sass, who turned their idea into reality with the help of Head Brewer Dave Ascione.

Bent Iron Brewing features a tasting taproom where visitors can enjoy freshly brewed beers, a spacious outdoor seating area with a walkable hop yard, and fire pits. The facility also includes a private room for events and options for beer on the go.

The founders aimed to create a unique destination that combines top-notch craft beers with a fun, welcoming farm setting. “Nestled in the heart of the state, our farm brewery offers a scenic backdrop, family fun, and, of course, refreshing brews,” said Brittain, Kanuck, and Sass.

Mayor Martin expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, stating, “Hamilton’s first brewery will make a great craft beer destination experience for our residents and travelers alike.”
