A Swing, A Flip, and A Courtroom Call: The Bat Flip That Rocked Little League
New Jersey often finds itself at the heart of intriguing stories, and recently, the world of youth baseball became the unexpected stage for a debate about sportsmanship, celebration, and the spirit of the game. A young Little Leaguer from the Garden State found himself in the spotlight, not just for his home run heroics, but for the ensuing “bat flip” that led to a suspension – a decision ultimately overturned by a judge.
When I first saw the story, I thought he threw the bat in anger. But when I heard it was because of a home run, I had to strongly disagree with that decision. I didn’t even consider it taunting or anything—just him being excited about hitting the ball over the fence, especially since it was the game-winning hit, for God’s sake. Regardless, this captivating tale began on the diamond, where a New Jersey Little Leaguer hit a game-winning home run, a moment of pure triumph for any young athlete. In the excitement of the moment, he celebrated with a bat flip, a common sight in professional baseball these days. However, the celebration was deemed “unsportsmanlike” and “horseplay” by the umpires, resulting in his ejection from the game and an automatic one-game suspension, which would have kept him out of a crucial state tournament game.
The decision sparked a passionate discussion across the state and beyond. Many questioned whether such a celebratory act warranted a suspension, especially given that similar “bat flips” are often highlighted and even promoted by various baseball organizations on social media. The player’s family, believing the punishment was unjust and inconsistent with how other celebrations are viewed, decided to take action, seeking legal intervention to allow the young athlete to play.
In a move that caught national attention, a New Jersey judge stepped in, reviewing the circumstances of the suspension. The judicial ruling ultimately sided with the young player, lifting the suspension and allowing him to return to the field for his team’s vital state tournament game. This decision hinged on the perceived inconsistency in how such celebrations are handled, noting that if bat flips are deemed inappropriate, they shouldn’t be showcased as exciting moments elsewhere.
This incident has ignited a broader conversation about evolving sportsmanship standards in youth athletics. While maintaining respect for the game and opponents is paramount, there’s also a growing recognition of the role that emotion and celebration play in sports. The Little League case from New Jersey serves as a compelling example of these modern tensions, prompting leagues and parents alike to consider how best to foster a competitive yet enjoyable environment for young athletes. It underscores the importance of clear, consistent guidelines that can adapt to the changing culture of sports.

Welcome Back My Friends – An Evening with Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Created by Carl Palmer and his management, the show will be presented with the full cooperation of the Estates of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. THIS IS NOT A TRIBUTE ACT- THIS IS THE REAL THING. Through modern technology they will reunite the band: Carl with his two bandmates, playing together along with Keith Emerson & Greg Lake, who both passed away in 2016. The show combines video performance of Emerson and Lake from a legendary sold out ROYAL ALBERT HALL ELP show from 1992 with live on stage performances of Carl Palmer with his own ELP Legacy band (Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick). All the musicians play together in sync to present a complete and authentic Emerson, Lake & Palmer show. Emerson, Lake & Palmer (informally known as ELP) was an English progressive rock supergroup formed in London in 1970. The band consisted of Keith Emerson (keyboards) of the Nice, Greg Lake of King Crimson (vocals, bass, guitar, producer), and Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster (drums, percussion). With nine RIAA-certified gold record albums in the US and an estimated 48 million records sold worldwide, they are one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock groups of the 1970s, with a musical sound including adaptations of classical music with jazz and symphonic rock elements, dominated by Emerson’s flamboyant use of the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano (although Lake wrote several acoustic songs for the group). The band became prominent after performing at the Isle of Wight Festival in August 1970. In their first year, the group signed with E.G. Records (who distributed the band’s records through Island Records in the United Kingdom and Atlantic Records in North America) and released Emerson, Lake & Palmer (1970) and Tarkus (1971), both of which reached the UK top five. The band’s success continued with Pictures at an Exhibition (1971), Trilogy (1972), and Brain Salad Surgery (1973, released on ELP’s own Manticore Records label). After a three-year break, Emerson, Lake & Palmer released Works Volume 1 (1977) and Works Volume 2 (1977). After Love Beach (1978), the group disbanded in 1979. The members played in various solo and partial reunion combinations during the 1980s. In 1991, the original trio re-formed and released two more albums, Black Moon (1992) and In the Hot Seat (1994), and toured between 1992 and 1998. Their final performance occurred in 2010 at the High Voltage Festival in London to commemorate the band’s 40th anniversary. Emerson and Lake died in 2016, leaving Palmer as the only surviving band member. In 2022, Palmer and his manager developed and launched the show initially as THE RETURN OF EMERSON LAKE & PALMER show, again with the full cooperation and involvement of both the Keith Emerson and Greg Lake estates. The show has been re-branded for 2025 as AN EVENING WITH EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER.

THE ORCHESTRA Starring ELO and ELO Part II Former Members
The story starts in 1970 in Birmingham, England, where the Electric Light Orchestra began their journey as one of the world’s most popular rock bands. Their music was characterized by a fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements, and futuristic iconography.
Mik Kaminski joined the band in 1973 with his legendary blue violin. The classic lineup of ELO solidified in 1974 with the addition of bassist/singer Kelly Groucutt and orchestrator Lou Clark, who augmented the band’s unique orchestral rock sound with his inventive classical arrangements. Mik, Lou, and Kelly played their way onto an astonishing library of hit records that sold more than 50 million copies. The albums include Eldorado, Face the Music, A New World Record, Out of the Blue, Discovery and Xanadu.
After the original line-up of ELO broke up in 1986, drummer Bev Bevan created ELO Part II in 1988 with English guitarist Pete Haycock, American keyboardist and songwriter Eric Troyer, and ELO former members Kaminski, Clark, Groucutt, and cellist Hugh McDowell. The band later recruited English guitarist Phil Bates to fill out the lineup. Groucutt, Bates, and Troyer were all accomplished lead and harmony singers which provided an abundance of vocal riches that pushed the band’s classic sound into fresh sonic territory. Phil Bates left ELO Part II in 1998 and was replaced by American singer, songwriter, and guitarist Parthenon Huxley.
In late 1999 drummer Bevan retired and was replaced with American drummer Gordon Townsend. The band began touring as THE ORCHESTRA in 2000. The new lineup released a brilliant album called No Rewind. The album features original songs by Kaminski, Troyer, Huxley, and Groucutt, as well as a stunning interpretation of “Twist and Shout.”
Nine years later in 2009, THE ORCHESTRA bassist and congenial front man, Kelly Groucutt, suddenly passed away the day after performing a concert with the group in Berlin, which was a devastating shock to the band and to class rock fans around the world. His boyhood home features a plaque honoring Kelly’s accomplishments with ELO. THE ORCHESTRA recruited occasional ELO Part II member and former Styx bassist, guitarist, songwriter, and singer Glen Burtnik to fill Kelly’s spot center stage.
While Lou Clark’s multi-talented son, Louis Clark Jr., worked with ELO Part II in the 90s, he became a permanent band member with THE ORCHESTRA in 2011. The father and son team lived the dream of performing together onstage around the world until 2021 when Louis Clark Sr. passed away. Louis Jr. now carries on in his late father’s role as orchestral keyboardist and symphonic conductor, along with the occasional romp on cello and guitar.
These days multi-instrumentalist Cliff Hillis joins the band on select shows and brings an extra layer of vocals, guitar, and sometimes bass to THE ORCHESTRA’s dynamic sound. In 2024, the documentary No Rewind: The Orchestra Starring ELO Former Members was released, providing rare behind-the-scenes band footage, stories of life on the road, and performances of each song from the album No Rewind. Edited together in a music video style, the film is a fast-moving reveal of how this iconic band has earned its place in rock and roll history.
Over the years the members of THE ORCHESTRA have played ELO’s greatest hits to millions of fans in over fifty countries.

Our Town
American Theater Group Brings “Our Town” to Life Across New Jersey
November 6, 2020 @ 17:30 – November 9, 2020 @ 23:30

The timeless American classic Our Town has returned to the stage, as the American Theater Group (ATG) presents its newest production of Thornton Wilder’s iconic play. Currently captivating audiences at the DMK Theater within the newly opened Union Arts Center, the production runs through November 2 before moving to the Sieminski Theater in Basking Ridge from November 6–9, 2025.
This latest staging of Our Town reimagines Wilder’s 1938 Pulitzer Prize–winning drama with fresh energy while honoring its simple yet profound depiction of everyday life in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners. ATG’s production embraces the play’s minimalist design and emotional honesty, highlighting the universal themes of love, loss, and the passage of time that continue to resonate nearly a century after the play’s debut.
Known for its commitment to telling powerful American stories, the American Theater Group once again delivers an emotionally stirring experience. The ensemble cast captures both the warmth and fragility of community life, drawing audiences into the rhythm of small-town existence where ordinary moments reveal extraordinary meaning. This version of Our Town particularly emphasizes the human connections that define our shared experiences—those quiet exchanges between neighbors, family members, and friends that make life deeply personal and profoundly moving.
The DMK Theater, part of the newly developed Union Arts Center, provides an intimate setting for the production’s first run. Its state-of-the-art design enhances the minimalist direction of Our Town, allowing the performances and storytelling to take center stage without distraction. The transfer to the Sieminski Theater in Basking Ridge offers another opportunity for audiences in central New Jersey to experience this acclaimed interpretation.
For those who appreciate meaningful live performance, this production stands out as a testament to the enduring relevance of American theater. Our Town continues to invite reflection on how we live our lives and what we value most—family, community, and the fleeting beauty of everyday moments.
The American Theater Group has established itself as one of New Jersey’s leading performing arts organizations, dedicated to bringing world-class theater to local audiences while supporting new and established artists alike. Productions like Our Town demonstrate ATG’s ability to balance tradition with innovation, breathing new life into beloved classics for modern audiences.
