An esteemed inductee into the New Jersey Hall of Fame, James has spent six decades shaping the sound of pop and rock music, creating an incredible catalog of timeless hits that continue to resonate with new generations of listeners. His influence is undeniable, with his songs being covered by an eclectic mix of artists from Prince to Billy Idol to Bruce Springsteen.
From the infectious energy of “Mony Mony” to the psychedelic groove of “Crimson and Clover,” James’s music is a masterclass in pop songwriting. He possesses a unique ability to craft songs that are both instantly catchy and enduringly complex, seamlessly blending rock and roll attitude with polished pop sensibilities. His career, which began with the explosive success of “Hanky Panky,” is a testament to his creative vision and his ability to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the music industry.
As a New Jersey resident for over 35 years, James has deep roots in the Garden State, making his induction into the Hall of Fame a particularly fitting tribute. Asleep At The Wheel – Happy Trails Tour
For over fifty years, Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson has been traversing the globe as an ambassador of Western swing music and introducing its irresistible sound to generation after generation. More than 100 musicians have passed through the Wheel, but Benson remains the front man and the keeper of the vision, in the process racking up more than 30 albums, ten Grammy awards and literally millions of miles on the road.
“I’m the reason it’s still together, but the reason it’s popular is because we’ve had the greatest singers and players,” Benson explains. “When someone joins the band, I say, ‘Learn everything that’s ever been done, then put your own stamp on it.’ I love to hear how they interpret what we do. I’m just a singer and a songwriter, and a pretty good guitar player, but my best talent is convincing people to jump on board and play this music.”
Asleep at the Wheel has collaborated on records with genre-spanning friends, including Willie Nelson on 2009’s Grammy Nominated Willie and the Wheel and other critically acclaimed artists, including Brad Paisley, Jamey Johnson, Merle Haggard, George Strait, the Avett Brothers, Amos Lee, Old Crow Medicine Show and Lyle Lovett on Still the King, their 2015 critically acclaimed and Grammy winning tribute to Bob Wills. On their latest release, Half A Hundred Years , Asleep At The Wheel continued their contributions to the American music landscape when three original members of Asleep at the Wheel—Chris O’Connell, Leroy Preston, and Lucky Oceans—returned after 40 years to lend their voices and musicianship to a number of tracks on the album along with Emmylou Harris, Lee Ann Womack, George Strait, Lyle Lovett and Willie Nelson.
Asleep at the Wheel represents an important cornerstone of American roots music, even though some of its members and audiences represent a new generation. That far-reaching appeal remains a testament to Benson’s initial vision.
“It took me 60 years, but I’m doing what I’m meant to do—singing and playing and writing better than I ever have. A bandleader is just someone who gathers people around them to play the best music they can play. I just try and make the best decisions possible and kick some ass every night onstage.”

Never one to shy away from new and challenging ideas, his performances promise intensity and beauty in the delivery of the music that he’s built a reputation with.

A New Era for Inclusive Living: THRIVE Red Bank Breaks Ground on Neuroinclusive Community
In a pioneering move that is setting a new standard for inclusive living, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Red Bank for THRIVE, a first-of-its-kind neuroinclusive apartment building. This innovative residential community is not just a new development; it is a visionary project designed to provide a safe, supportive, and independent living environment for neurodivergent adults, right in the heart of one of New Jersey’s most vibrant towns.

The concept for THRIVE Red Bank was born out of a personal mission by its founder, Karen Fluharty, who was inspired by her neurodivergent son, Ryan. After an exhaustive search for quality, independent housing options for neurodivergent young adults, she and her team identified a significant need for new solutions. THRIVE Red Bank is the answer, built to address the “services cliff” that many young adults face after aging out of traditional educational programs.
This three-story building, located at 273 Shrewsbury Avenue, will feature 32 one-bedroom apartments. While the homes are designed for independent living, the building’s first floor will be dedicated to a rich array of amenities specifically created to support residents’ well-being and personal growth. These thoughtful spaces include a teaching kitchen, a health and wellness room, a sensory space, and a community engagement area, fostering a sense of connection and providing opportunities for skill development.
What truly makes THRIVE a national model is its groundbreaking public/private partnership with the Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services (RCAAS). This collaboration means residents will benefit from the expertise of Rutgers’ senior clinical faculty and highly trained staff. At the same time, the facility will serve as a training ground for university students, ensuring a pipeline of future professionals who are equipped to support this community. This combination of real estate, community building, and academia is a powerful blueprint for future neuroinclusive developments.
The choice of Red Bank for this inaugural project was deliberate. The borough’s walkability, access to public transit (crucial for residents who may not drive), and its mix of employment, volunteering, and recreational opportunities make it an ideal, inclusive environment. With the support of partners like Manasquan Bank, the project is on track for completion in 2027, promising a new era of supported independence.
THRIVE Red Bank is more than a building; it’s a beacon of hope and an example of how communities can come together to provide dignified, high-quality living options for a greatly underserved population. This project demonstrates New Jersey’s commitment to creating spaces where all residents, regardless of their neurological profile, can thrive.

The Mayor’s appreciation for the band became publicly apparent during his 2024 State of the Township address when he made a memorable entrance to the rousing opening chords of My Chemical Romance’s unforgettable hit, “Welcome to the Black Parade.” It wasn’t just a catchy song choice; it was a clear signal of his intention to find a meaningful way to acknowledge the band’s profound impact and their Belleville origins. It’s a chance for New Jersey to celebrate one of its most successful musical exports and for Belleville to proudly claim its role in the origin story of My Chemical Romance. It’s a reminder that even the biggest rock legends have roots, and in this case, those roots run deep in the Garden State.

The Strategic Blueprint: How New Jersey Businesses Can Master Capital Planning
A Strategic Guide to Capital Planning for New Jersey Businesses
For middle-market companies across New Jersey, capital is the lifeblood that fuels innovation, drives expansion, and ensures long-term stability. Yet, far too often, businesses take a reactive approach to capital planning, scrambling to secure financing only when a critical need arises. This backward-looking strategy can leave a company vulnerable and at a competitive disadvantage.
Instead, a proactive and strategic approach can be a powerful tool for success. By treating capital planning not as a task, but as a core component of your business strategy, you can optimally position your company for growth. Here’s a closer look at the key steps every middle-market company should take to transform its financial outlook.
1. Go Beyond the Immediate: Understand Your Capital Needs
True capital planning starts with a deep and forward-looking assessment of your company’s financial position. It’s about projecting what you need, not just what you have. Think about the future of your business and the potential hurdles and opportunities that lie ahead.
- Growth Plans: Are you eyeing a significant acquisition, launching a new product line, or investing in state-of-the-art equipment? Having a clear capital plan ensures you have the resources ready when opportunity knocks.
- Working Capital: Consider what might impact your day-to-day operations. Anticipating changes in supply chains, seasonal demands, or new customer relationships can help you secure the necessary liquidity to keep the business running smoothly without strain.
- Risk Mitigation: Proactive planning allows you to consider tools like hedging solutions to protect against market volatility and other uncertainties. By thinking ahead, you can secure the right capital before a need becomes a crisis.
2. Find the Perfect Balance: Optimize Your Capital Structure
One of the most challenging decisions for any growing company is determining the right mix of debt and equity. An optimized capital structure is a delicate balance that minimizes cost while maintaining financial flexibility.
- Debt Financing: Borrowing money through credit solutions can be a fast way to fuel growth and retain full ownership of your company. It offers predictable payments and tax-deductible interest. However, it requires a commitment to a fixed repayment schedule, regardless of your company’s performance, which can be a heavy burden during leaner times.
- Equity Financing: Bringing in an equity partner means you give up a percentage of ownership in exchange for capital. While this eliminates the burden of fixed debt payments, it comes at the cost of sharing future profits and potentially relinquishing some control over key business decisions.
The goal is to strike a balance that allows your company to pursue its goals with confidence, without taking on unnecessary risk.
3. Connect the Dots: Align Capital with Your Strategy
Your capital plan should be a direct reflection of your strategic goals. Without this alignment, financial decisions can feel disconnected and inefficient. A holistic plan should answer critical questions: What are the most vital investments needed to scale? Have you stress-tested your financial models to account for potential risks? Does your current capital structure provide the flexibility to pursue new market opportunities? By ensuring your sources and uses of capital are in perfect harmony with your business objectives, you can build a resilient and focused organization.
4. Cultivate a Partnership: Strengthen Banking Relationships
Your bank should be more than just a place to get a loan. A strong relationship with a trusted commercial banker is a strategic advantage. A dedicated banking partner can act as a knowledgeable advisor, helping you:
- Identify tailored solutions: Beyond traditional loans, they can provide specialized financing, cash flow management, and other tools designed for your specific industry.
- Optimize operations: Through Treasury Management and Liquidity services, a banker can help streamline your payments, manage receivables, and mitigate fraud, all of which strengthen your company’s bottom line.
- Navigate the unknown: A good banker offers proactive risk management strategies and insights that help you navigate economic uncertainties and market shifts.
The bottom line is that strategic capital planning is a crucial discipline that extends far beyond simply securing funding. By understanding your needs, optimizing your financial structure, aligning capital with your vision, and building a strong relationship with a strategic banking partner, you can position your New Jersey company for optimal long-term success.
