Wonka’s The Golden Ticket
NJ Contestant: Jason Jani  ·  Premieres: September 23, 2026  ·  Platform: Netflix

Jason Jani, owner and founder of the Freehold based entertainment firm SCE Event Group, is bringing a piece of New Jersey onto one of the biggest new stages in reality television. Jani is one of just twelve main contestants selected for Netflix’s new reality game show, Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, a high stakes social experiment that sends competitors through a retro futuristic recreation of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory in pursuit of a massive, undisclosed cash prize.

Each of the show’s twelve Golden Ticket winners was allowed to bring one partner into the competition, and Jani chose someone with genuine history behind the choice, fellow DJ Nick Spinelli, who worked alongside Jani at SCE Event Group for a full decade before the two headed into Wonka’s factory together. Between Jani’s business and Spinelli’s decade of shared experience on the New Jersey entertainment circuit, the pairing gives the show a genuinely local duo competing on a distinctly global platform.

Inside the Factory

The nine episode series transforms Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory into an unscripted, high stakes game show, bringing twelve pairs of contestants, twenty four competitors in total, into a massive, fully immersive replica of Wonka’s factory to compete for what the show describes only as a lifetime supply of money. Contestants face a running series of physical, mental, and moral tests built directly into the factory’s design, and failing a challenge or giving in to temptation gets a pair’s tour terminated entirely, a clear nod to the fates of characters like Augustus Gloop and Veruca Salt in the original story. Periodically, competitors are pulled out of the factory and sent into Wonkavision 2.0, a pristine white broadcast studio built for high stakes game show segments with names like Wheel of Misfortune, Bubble Jeopardy, and Steal or No Steal. Out of the full field of twenty four players, only one ultimately walks away with the grand prize.

Nostalgia Meets Genuinely Modern Production

The series leans heavily on nostalgia for the beloved 1971 film while layering in some genuinely novel modern production choices. With the consent of his estate, Netflix used AI technology to recreate the late Gene Wilder’s voice, giving the show its narrator and guide throughout the competition. The Wonkavision 2.0 segments are hosted by a trio of familiar game show figures, Howie Mandel, Nick Cannon, and Wayne Brady, who appear to contestants as live holograms rather than in person. The cast list carries its own nostalgic thread as well, with original 1971 Oompa Loompa actor Rusty Goffe reprising his role decades later, alongside recognizable reality television names including Big Brother’s Drew Campbell. In a particularly online touch, Netflix even brought on Kirsty Paterson, the viral sad Oompa Loompa from the widely mocked, disastrous 2024 Glasgow Wonka experience, to help promote the new series’ launch.

When to Watch

Netflix is rolling the season out in two drops. The first seven episodes arrive all at once on Wednesday, September 23, with a two part finale following a week later on Wednesday, September 30, giving viewers a full week to work through the bulk of the competition before the final results play out. For New Jersey viewers in particular, Jani and Spinelli’s run through the factory gives this season a genuinely local rooting interest from the very first episode.
