Once a month, this intimate cafe hands the room over to songwriters and asks the audience to do the one thing most venues never bother requesting anymore, just listen. Café Artiste is a genuine listening room, built around a simple, unwritten contract between the audience and the performer, the audience agrees to actually pay attention, and in exchange the performer gets to take real risks with a bridge that hasn’t quite been road tested yet, a lyric more vulnerable than a typical bar crowd would sit still for, or a quiet song that would get lost anywhere louder. Light cafe fare keeps the evening casual rather than formal, and there’s no ticket price standing between anyone and a seat, just a five dollar minimum donation at the door that goes directly toward keeping the room running and the artists supported.
