A Historic Moment for Ginny Choi
With just 39 seconds remaining in the first half, Choi netted her 200th goal on a free-position shot, giving the Knights an 8–2 lead at halftime. Choi, who now boasts 202 career goals and 242 career points, expressed her excitement:
“I actually had no idea that I could get it today. It’s really exciting, I feel it’s an accomplishment that I was able to get it and it’s a milestone that I’m very happy to get.”
Her performance not only marked a personal achievement but also ended the Knights’ six-game losing streak in a significant way.
Team Effort Leads to Victory
While Choi’s offensive prowess was the highlight, the Knights’ success was a collective effort. Leary Connaughton contributed a hat trick, including a crucial goal at the 5:57 mark of the final period to extend the lead to 13–9. Molly Resnick added two goals and an assist, while Bella Abrigo and Anya Chakraborty each scored once. In goal, Vani Patel made key saves in the second half to maintain the lead.
Head coach Julia Giordano praised her team’s performance:
“Everyone stepped up in a big way. The defense played composed and we were able to force some turnovers and I was proud of them.”
Panthers Show Promise Despite Loss
Princeton Day School, with a roster featuring several underclassmen, demonstrated resilience throughout the game. Natalia Soffer led the Panthers with three goals and an assist, while Luci McKee and Lena Wijaya each contributed two goals. Ava Fairbanks added a goal and an assist, and Shelby Ruf, a standout player in her four years, scored once.
Coach Lucia Marcozzi acknowledged the team’s potential:
“We have a lot of good young talent and it’s all about putting it all together and getting healthy. We have a lot of players that are still learning.”
Looking Ahead
The Knights (5–9) will face top-seeded Allentown (14–2) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Choi, who will play soccer at Babson College in the fall of 2026, reflected on her journey:
“I just love to play sports as I’m very competitive. Playing sports is like an outlet for me and it’s a way from everything else and it’s fun for me to play.”
Her dedication and passion for sports have not only led to athletic success but have also contributed to her personal growth. “There are times it’s a challenge and frustrating, but I think that’s how I have grown as a person as well. All sports have helped me become the person I am today,” she added.
