Cherry Hill to Get New Skatepark: Construction to Begin in September

Exciting news for skateboarding enthusiasts and local residents: a new skatepark is set to make its debut at Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill. Camden County officials have announced that work on the $900,000 attraction will begin this September, with completion expected by the end of the year.

Location and Features

The Skateboard Park will be situated off North Park Drive, directly across from the DoubleTree Hotel and adjacent to the county’s seasonal ice rink. This strategic location within Cooper River Park ensures that the skatepark will be easily accessible and integrated with other recreational facilities in the area.

A visual rendering of the planned skatepark, provided by Camden County, showcases an expansive and modern facility designed to cater to skaters of all skill levels. The new park promises to feature a variety of ramps, rails, and other elements to support both street and vert skateboarding styles.

Funding and Construction

The project is part of the Parks Alive 2025 initiative, a $100 million effort aimed at revitalizing Camden County’s park system, including Cooper River Park. The skatepark’s construction will be overseen by Seacoast Construction, Inc., a concrete contractor based in East Brunswick, who won the contract with a bid of $913,410. Although another company offered a lower bid of just under $810,000, it was rejected due to non-compliance with project specifications, as confirmed by county officials.

A Vision for the Future

The new skatepark is a significant addition to Camden County’s ongoing efforts to enhance public spaces and provide diverse recreational opportunities. The Parks Alive 2025 initiative underscores the county’s commitment to improving and expanding its park facilities, ensuring they meet the needs and interests of the community.

The construction of the skatepark not only highlights the county’s investment in its recreational infrastructure but also reflects a broader trend towards creating inclusive spaces for youth and active lifestyles. With the skatepark’s anticipated opening by the end of the year, local skaters will soon have a state-of-the-art venue to practice and enjoy their sport.

Stay tuned for further updates as construction progresses and the park begins to take shape. The new Skateboard Park at Cooper River Park is set to become a vibrant hub for the skateboarding community and a valuable addition to Cherry Hill’s recreational landscape.
