Rider University is preparing to embark on an exciting new era with the appointment of John R. Loyack as its next president. Following a national search and a unanimous vote by the Board of Trustees, Loyack will officially take the helm on July 7, 2025, succeeding Dr. Gregory G. Dell’Omo, who has served with distinction since 2015.

This leadership transition comes at a pivotal time—not just for Rider, but for higher education as a whole. Loyack, a dynamic leader with a unique blend of experience in both academia and the corporate world, brings a fresh yet seasoned perspective that aligns with Rider’s mission and future ambitions.

A Visionary Leader with a Proven Track Record

John R. Loyack arrives at Rider with an impressive résumé and a reputation for transformative leadership. Most recently, he served as president of Alvernia University in Reading, Pennsylvania, from 2019 to 2024. There, he spearheaded a campus-wide transformation that included new academic programs in high-demand fields, expanded community partnerships, and the largest fundraising campaign in Alvernia’s history—an astounding $60 million effort.

His forward-thinking strategies led to national recognition for the university and record-breaking student enrollment, demonstrating his deep commitment to both innovation and access to higher education.

Before his time at Alvernia, Loyack held the position of executive vice president for business and administration at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. There, he helped steer the institution back to financial health while expanding its academic offerings and revitalizing its urban presence. His work wasn’t limited to internal operations—he played a critical role in community development initiatives that enhanced the college’s connection with the city and its residents.

Loyack also brings over 15 years of executive experience from the energy, manufacturing, and nonprofit sectors, where he led major growth and operational improvement initiatives. His career has been marked by a consistent focus on strategic advancement, community engagement, and student success.

A Commitment to Rider’s Core Values

In his first statement as incoming president, Loyack expressed both excitement and gratitude:

“I am deeply honored to be joining the Rider University family. Rider has a strong legacy of educational excellence, engaged student learning and regional impact. I look forward to working collaboratively with the university’s students, faculty, staff, alumni and Board of Trustees to advance that legacy and shape an even more vibrant and successful future.”

That collaborative mindset will be central to Loyack’s presidency. The university plans to host a series of welcome events and listening sessions leading up to and following his official start. These gatherings will provide opportunities for the Rider community to connect with their new leader and help shape the university’s next chapter together.

Guiding Rider into the Future

Joan C. Mazzotti ’72, chair of the Rider University Board of Trustees, emphasized the significance of Loyack’s appointment:

“John Loyack is a transformative, mission-driven leader with a record of innovation, strategic growth and unwavering dedication to student success. As higher education faces profound challenges today, his ability to navigate complexity, inspire community, and champion innovation will guide Rider forward.”

As Rider continues to evolve in a competitive academic landscape, Loyack’s blend of strategic acumen, financial expertise, and passion for student-centered education positions him as the right leader for this moment. His appointment signals a bold step toward strengthening Rider’s regional impact, enhancing academic offerings, and deepening community ties.

A Warm Welcome to New Jersey

Originally from Pittston, Pennsylvania, and holding degrees from King’s College and Lehigh University, Loyack brings with him a strong personal and professional commitment to the values that define the Mid-Atlantic region. He is a certified public accountant and a long-time advocate for community engagement, having served on various nonprofit and educational boards.

With his deep roots in education and business, Loyack is well-equipped to build on Rider’s legacy while helping the university adapt and thrive in the years ahead.

As the summer approaches and the university prepares to welcome its new leader, there’s a renewed sense of optimism and momentum on campus. Rider University is poised for growth, innovation, and deeper impact—and under John Loyack’s leadership, the Broncs are ready to charge forward.
