New Jersey Devils stars Jack and Luke Hughes are taking their passion off the ice with the launch of Hughes Brothers’ Pucks & Pages, a new literacy initiative aimed at engaging children across the state. In partnership with JAG Physical Therapy and Hockey in New Jersey, the program blends the excitement of hockey with the power of reading, giving young fans a unique opportunity to connect with the sport and expand their learning.

The program is designed for youth participating in Hockey in New Jersey’s scholastic programs, providing selected books handpicked by the Hughes brothers. Children who meet their reading goals are rewarded with a special Devils home game experience, including tickets, team merchandise, in-game recognition, and a post-game meet-and-greet with Jack and Luke Hughes. This interactive experience aims to make literacy both engaging and memorable.
The first book featured in Pucks & Pages is “Fast Pitch” by Nic Stone, a coming-of-age story that follows a young softball player striving to prove herself both on and off the field. Participants who complete the reading goal will also receive a signed certificate from the Hughes brothers, connecting the excitement of their favorite athletes to a tangible accomplishment in literacy.
Jack and Luke Hughes expressed their enthusiasm for the program, emphasizing the importance of creating long-term engagement with reading. “It’s an interactive way to engage students with our passion for reading for many years to come,” the brothers said jointly. “We’re lucky JAG partnered with us, along with Hockey in New Jersey, so we can bring people to the game, meet them after, and share that experience.”
JAG Physical Therapy, which has supported the Devils for more than two decades, will sponsor the game-day experiences for students. John Gallucci Jr., JAG’s president and CEO, highlighted the organization’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting youth initiatives beyond the realm of sports. “We’re honored to be a part of Jack and Luke’s new program, working alongside them to help support reading among our youth hockey players,” Gallucci said. “We look forward to continued collaboration to positively impact children within our communities and provide opportunities and new experiences for youth hockey.”
For Hockey in New Jersey, the partnership represents an expansion of their mission to provide access and opportunity to underserved youth. Co-founders Dennis Ruppe and Keith Veltre underscored the importance of fostering growth and confidence both on and off the ice. “Hughes Brothers’ Pucks & Pages is a perfect extension of that mission. We’re incredibly grateful to Jack and Luke Hughes, JAG Physical Therapy, and the New Jersey Devils for helping bring this vision to life and making reading both accessible and exciting for our kids,” they said.
With Pucks & Pages, the Hughes brothers are showing that their influence extends far beyond the rink. By connecting sports, literacy, and meaningful experiences, the program offers young New Jersey residents a chance to develop a lifelong love of reading while celebrating their passion for hockey.
