White Eagle Hall Presents Kishi Bashi with Oshima Brothers

May 5 @ 20:00 23:30

Kishi Bashi, the musical alias of Kaoru Ishibashi, is a Seattle-born, Athens-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter renowned for his genre-defying soundscapes that blend indie pop, orchestral rock, and electronic elements. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Kishi Bashi first gained widespread recognition with his 2012 debut album, 151a, which earned critical acclaim and was highlighted by NPR’s Bob Boilen as one of the standout releases of the year. His 2016 album, Sonderlust, showcased a departure into ’70s soft rock and synth-pop, while his 2019 release, Omoiyari, delved into the poignant history of Japanese-American internment during World War II, blending personal storytelling with historical reflection. The accompanying documentary, Omoiyari: A Songfilm by Kishi Bashi, premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2022 and was later acquired by MTV Documentaries for streaming on Paramount+. In 2024, Kishi Bashi released his fifth studio album, Kantos, a vibrant fusion of Brazilian jazz, ’70s funk, orchestral rock, and city pop, inspired by the sci-fi novel series Hyperion Cantos, philosopher Immanuel Kant, and a transformative journey to Crete. kishibashi.com

🎶 Oshima Brothers: Folk-Pop Duo from Maine

The Oshima Brothers, Sean and Jamie, are a Japanese-Italian alt-pop sibling duo hailing from Whitefield, Maine. Raised by American folk musician parents, they began making music together in their youth, developing a unique sound characterized by smooth harmonies and groovy guitar lines. Their live performances are dynamic, often incorporating looping and multi-instrumental arrangements to create a rich, layered sound.

Since their debut in 2015, the Oshima Brothers have released several projects, including their 2016 self-titled album and the 2022 visual album Dark Nights Golden Days. Their music has been featured on platforms like Maine Public Radio, which praised their “harmonies that can’t be beat” and uplifting style. Wikipedia

Known for their DIY approach, the brothers handle all aspects of their music production and video creation, producing nearly all of their songs and accompanying visuals independently. Their commitment to authenticity and creativity has garnered them a dedicated following and critical acclaim within the indie music scene.

Both Kishi Bashi and the Oshima Brothers exemplify the rich tapestry of talent emerging from New Jersey’s vibrant music scene. Their innovative sounds and compelling narratives continue to captivate audiences, making them must-see artists for fans of genre-blending and heartfelt music.
