The New Jersey Supreme Court has appointed Superior Court Judge Michael V. Cresitello Jr. as the new assignment judge for the Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Vicinage (Vicinage 13). This appointment, announced by Chief Justice Stuart Rabner on May 12, 2025, will take effect at the end of the month, succeeding the retiring Judge Kevin Shanahan.


A Seasoned Legal Professional

Judge Cresitello brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Appointed to the bench by Republican Governor Chris Christie in 2014 and reappointed by Democratic Governor Phil Murphy in 2021, his judicial career spans multiple vicinages and divisions.

  • Essex Vicinage: Judge Cresitello began his judicial career in the civil division.
  • Mercer Vicinage: He later served in the family division, chairing the Mercer County Domestic Violence Working Group.

Before his judicial appointments, Cresitello was a partner at the law firm DiFrancesco Bateman in Warren Township, focusing on civil litigation, municipal law, and land use. He also served as a municipal prosecutor in several municipalities.
