Celebrate Cinema and History: Applause Documentary Premiere & Anniversary Party at The Levoy Theatre

This September, history and film unite for a memorable night at the Levoy Theatre in Millville, New Jersey. On Friday, September 19, 2025, film lovers, history buffs, and community supporters will gather to premiere Applause: The Historic Levoy Theatre Documentary — a heartfelt tribute to one of southern New Jersey’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

This special event also serves as an anniversary celebration, with a lively party kicking off at 6:00 PM, followed by the documentary screening at 8:00 PM, and then a showcase of the CUT International Film Festival’s opening lineup.

The Levoy Theatre: A Century of Stories and Stages

The Levoy Theatre’s story mirrors the evolution of American entertainment itself. Originally opened on January 9, 1908, this historic venue started as a Vaudeville and silent film house, enchanting audiences with variety shows and early cinematic experiences. As the decades passed, the Levoy transitioned into a Warner Brothers movie house by 1939, before shifting back to live music and theatre performances in the post-war era.

By the 1970s, the theatre faced tough times — operating as a second-run movie house, it eventually closed in 1974 due to safety concerns. The building’s second floor was repurposed for apartments in the 1980s, but the heart of the Levoy’s cultural spirit remained dormant.

The story took a hopeful turn in 1995, when local advocates formed the Levoy Theatre Preservation Society, sparking a community-led revival. Today, the Levoy shines as a modern venue boasting state-of-the-art facilities, presenting high-caliber productions and films while honoring its rich history.

What to Expect at the Premiere & Anniversary Party

For $90 per person, attendees gain exclusive access to an unforgettable evening beginning with the Anniversary Party from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in the mezzanine, where guests can mingle, celebrate, and soak in the theatre’s legacy. Doors open a half hour before the party, offering plenty of time to get settled.

At 8:00 PM sharp, the curtain rises on ArtC’s documentary Applause — a cinematic journey through the Levoy’s hundred-plus years of magic, challenges, and rebirth. This premiere marks a milestone in both the theatre’s and the city’s cultural narrative.

The night continues with the CUT International Film Festival’s first group of films from 9:00 to 10:00 PM, giving attendees a full evening of entertainment and discovery.

This event is a fundraiser supporting the Levoy’s ongoing mission to preserve and expand arts programming in Millville.
