Explore New Jersey Weather Report: A Week of Rain, Clouds & a Promising Weekend Ahead

By Weather NJ | May 5, 2025

This week in New Jersey brings a mix of much-needed rain, on-and-off showers, cool temperatures, and hints of early spring warmth peeking through the clouds. As a low-pressure system remains stalled south of the Great Lakes and a ridge holds steady over the Northeast, the Garden State is caught in a tug-of-war between unsettled weather and fleeting moments of sunshine. Here’s your detailed breakdown of what to expect—and when you might finally be able to leave the umbrella at home.

🌧️ Current Conditions & Atmospheric Overview

Temperatures tonight will dip to around 60°F across most of New Jersey, give or take a few degrees depending on location. We’ll continue to see intermittent rain throughout the evening, with the upper low-pressure system to our west lingering and intensifying into Monday. This low is clashing with a high-pressure ridge extending from southeastern Canada into the Atlantic, creating a battleground overhead that’s keeping our skies turbulent and unsettled.

While the rain isn’t expected to be consistent or widespread, scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms are likely throughout the week. The pattern is classic spring: unsettled, uncertain, but not without its bright spots. Expect some drier windows—especially midweek—but keep your weather apps close and your plans flexible.

🗓️ New Jersey Weather Forecast: May 5 – May 11, 2025

Monday, May 5

  • Highs: Mid-to-upper 60s
  • Conditions: Overcast skies with periods of rain likely throughout the day. Light to breezy east winds, strongest along coastal areas in ECNJ and SENJ.
  • Overnight: Temps near 60°F with continued scattered showers.

Tuesday, May 6

  • Highs: Mid-to-upper 60s for North NJ and the coast; possible low-to-mid 70s inland (Central/South NJ)
  • Conditions: Another cloudy, damp day with waves of rain and potential for thunderstorms. Winds from the south/southeast may pick up slightly.
  • Overnight: Lows in the 55–60°F range as precipitation tapers off.

Wednesday, May 7

  • Highs: Low-to-mid 70s statewide
  • Conditions: Some improvement with a mix of sun and clouds. A few leftover showers may linger early, especially in North Jersey. Winds shifting to the west/northwest.
  • Overnight: Lows around 55–60°F as skies gradually clear.

Thursday, May 8

  • Highs: Mid-to-upper 60s
  • Conditions: A blend of clouds and limited sunshine, with isolated showers possible in the afternoon or evening. Westerly/northwesterly breezes persist.
  • Overnight: Cooler with lows between 45–55°F. Spotty showers may continue overnight.

Friday, May 9

  • Highs: Around 60°F statewide
  • Conditions: A cool, partly sunny day with a cleaner, drier feel thanks to light northerly winds. A more stable air mass begins to take hold.
  • Overnight: Crisp and dry with lows ranging from 40°F in the north to 50°F in the south.

☀️ Early Weekend Outlook: May 10–11

After a week of dodging raindrops, the weekend looks like a breath of fresh air—literally. As of the latest model guidance, Saturday should reach the mid-60s with abundant sunshine. Sunday brings even better news, with highs climbing into the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies. It’s shaping up to be the best weather of the week, perfect for outdoor plans, gardening, hiking, or just soaking up spring in New Jersey.

We’ll keep watching the data to confirm this trend by midweek, but for now, pencil in some time outdoors this coming weekend—you might finally get the dry break you’ve been waiting for.

This unique cultural event takes place at the storied Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge, New Jersey—a site steeped in colonial history and rich Jersey Dutch heritage.

What Is Pinkster?

Pinkster, originally a Dutch holiday tied to Pentecost, evolved into a springtime festival in colonial America, blending Dutch traditions with African cultural influences. At Historic New Bridge Landing, Pinkster has been reimagined as a lively, educational, and family-friendly event that honors these early traditions while celebrating the arrival of spring with dance, food, music, crafts, and more.

Highlights of the Day

🕊️ Honoring Ancestors – Pouring Ceremonies
At 1:15 PM and 2:15 PM, join BCHS Trustee Muriel Roberts in a moving ancestral remembrance ceremony. This spiritual tradition acknowledges and honors the ancestors who came before us, weaving historical reflection into the day’s celebrations.

Don’t miss the Tricorne Dance Ensemble, led by dance mistress Denise Piccino, as they bring history to life with traditional 18th-century dances and two lively Maypole dances at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM. At 3:00 PM, children are invited to join in the joy of dancing around the maypole—a timeless symbol of spring renewal. Music will be provided by the talented Ridley and Anne Enslow, performing on fiddle and hammered dulcimer.

🧵 Samplers and Needlework: Stitching Together the Past
At 2:30 PM, historian and author Marty Campanelli presents a captivating lecture on schoolgirl needlework samplers from New Jersey dating back to the 1700s. Gain insight into regional styles, influential instructresses, and personal stories stitched into each piece. Her talk will complement a new exhibit in the 1752 Steuben House, featuring delicate, historic samplers crafted by young girls of the era.

🎨 Traditional Crafts & Demos
Explore colonial craftsmanship up close:

  • Watch the Lost Art Lacers demonstrate the intricate art of lacemaking inside the Steuben House.
  • Visit the Westervelt-Thomas Barn for a broom-making demonstration and see the blacksmith hard at work creating tools and treasures from fire and steel.

NHL Coaching Carousel: Rangers, Devils, and Ducks Shakeups

The NHL offseason is in full swing, and the coaching landscape is undergoing significant changes. Here’s an in-depth look at the latest developments concerning the New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, and Anaheim Ducks.

🏒 New York Rangers: Mike Sullivan Takes the Helm

The New York Rangers have officially appointed Mike Sullivan as their new head coach, marking a pivotal moment in the franchise’s history. Sullivan, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the Rangers. His hiring is seen as a strategic move to stabilize the team following a disappointing season.New York Post+1New York Post+1ReutersNew York Post

Sullivan’s tenure with the Penguins was marked by consistent playoff appearances and a strong development of young talent. His leadership style emphasizes a balanced approach, focusing on both offensive prowess and defensive responsibility. This philosophy aligns with the Rangers’ current roster, which boasts a mix of seasoned veterans and emerging stars.

Rangers President and GM Chris Drury, who has a longstanding professional relationship with Sullivan, expressed confidence in the new hire. Drury highlighted Sullivan’s ability to maximize player potential and foster a cohesive team environment. The Rangers are hopeful that Sullivan’s leadership will propel them back into Stanley Cup contention.Reuters+3New York Post+3New York Post+3

🐺 New Jersey Devils: Sheldon Keefe’s Vision for the Future

The New Jersey Devils are entering a new era under head coach Sheldon Keefe. Keefe, who took over the reins in May 2024, is focused on transforming the Devils into a championship-caliber team. One of his primary objectives is to enhance the team’s defensive capabilities, an area that was a weakness in the previous season.NHL+5Sportskeeda+5Wikipedia+5

Keefe emphasizes the importance of net-front protection and goaltender support, aiming to reduce the number of goals allowed per game. By instilling a strong defensive mindset, Keefe believes the Devils can build a more balanced and competitive team.SI

Under Keefe’s guidance, the Devils are expected to continue their offensive prowess while addressing defensive shortcomings. The combination of a potent offense and a solid defense could make the Devils a formidable force in the Eastern Conference.

🦆 Anaheim Ducks: Coaching Change Signals New Direction

The Anaheim Ducks have parted ways with head coach Greg Cronin after two seasons at the helm. Cronin’s tenure was marked by a lack of playoff appearances, prompting the organization to seek a new direction.Wikipedia

The Ducks are now in the process of identifying a new head coach who can lead the team back to postseason contention. The search is focused on candidates who can develop young talent and instill a winning culture within the organization.

As the Ducks embark on this coaching search, the focus will be on finding a leader who can harness the potential of their young roster and guide the team toward future success.

Stay tuned for more updates on NHL coaching changes and team developments as the offseason progresses.

Bill Spadea Energizes GOP Base at Morristown Rally

In a spirited display of grassroots enthusiasm, Bill Spadea, a prominent conservative radio host and gubernatorial candidate, addressed a packed crowd of 250 to 300 supporters at a local bar in Morristown on May 1, 2025. The event underscored Spadea’s commitment to challenging the political establishment and resonated with attendees eager for change in New Jersey’s leadership.

Challenging the Status Quo

Spadea, known for his anti-establishment rhetoric, dismissed recent polling data that placed his opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, ahead in the race. He criticized the credibility of certain polls, labeling them as unreliable and emphasizing his belief in the power of the people over political elites. “Not credible,” Spadea remarked, expressing skepticism about the polls’ accuracy .

A Vision for New Jersey

Addressing the crowd, Spadea outlined his vision for New Jersey, focusing on issues that resonate with conservative voters. He proposed eliminating sanctuary cities, dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, and rescinding bail reform policies. His bold statements, such as “Let them rot,” regarding bail reform, were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Engaging the Republican Base

The turnout itself was a testament to the mobilization of the Republican base, signaling a strong desire for change among party members.
