New Jersey Devils’ 2024-25 Season Awards: Bright Spots in a Rollercoaster Year & What Devils Fans Want to Hear from Tom Fitzgerald and Sheldon Keefe

Explore New Jersey Sports | Devils Hockey Recap & Honors

The 2024-25 NHL season was an up-and-down journey for the New Jersey Devils—marked by flashes of brilliance, stretches of frustration, and ultimately a campaign that ended just shy of expectations. While the Devils didn’t make the deep playoff run fans had hoped for, their 42-33-7 record reflected both the team’s growing pains and its undeniable talent.

From breakout stars to locker room leaders, the Devils still had plenty to celebrate. As the team regroups for what’s sure to be an action-packed offseason, it’s time to look back and recognize the players who stood out, stepped up, and gave Devils fans something to cheer for.

Most Valuable Player: Jack Hughes

Despite battling through injuries that sidelined him for key stretches, Jack Hughes once again proved he’s the heartbeat of this Devils roster. When he was healthy, Hughes was electric—leading the team in points and driving play every time he hit the ice. His combination of vision, puck handling, and pure offensive creativity made him nearly impossible to defend, even against the league’s top matchups.

More than just numbers, Hughes brought energy and leadership to a team that leaned on him heavily in tight games. It’s clear that as Jack goes, so go the Devils.

Best Defenseman: Luke Hughes

It didn’t take long for Luke Hughes to carve out his own identity beyond just being Jack’s younger brother. The rookie blueliner was one of the most exciting stories of the season for New Jersey, showing poise, speed, and a surprising level of maturity for his age. Whether rushing the puck up ice or holding down the blue line, Luke made a strong case for himself as a future top-pairing D-man.

His skating and offensive instincts helped spark several key plays throughout the season, and his growth game-by-game suggests the Devils have something truly special on their back end.

Top Goaltender: Jake Allen

While goaltending was a challenge for the Devils all year, Jake Allen brought some much-needed stability when it mattered most. Acquired midseason, Allen stepped into a high-pressure situation and delivered quality starts, often keeping the Devils in games they had no business being in.

With a calm presence in the crease and a strong veteran mindset, Allen was a key reason the team remained competitive down the stretch. His performance was a reminder that steady goaltending can be the backbone of a young, fast-paced team still figuring out its identity.

Breakout Player: Dawson Mercer

Talk about taking the next step—Dawson Mercer elevated his game this season in a major way. Known for his two-way play and hockey IQ, Mercer added more scoring punch to his game while remaining a key piece on both the power play and penalty kill.

He played in all situations, often tasked with shutting down opposing stars while still finding ways to contribute offensively. Mercer’s versatility and durability make him one of the most valuable under-the-radar players on the Devils’ roster.

Most Improved Player: Alexander Holtz

After a couple of seasons trying to find his rhythm at the NHL level, Alexander Holtz finally made his presence known in 2024-25. With improved confidence and consistency, Holtz emerged as a reliable secondary scorer, showcasing his elite shot and willingness to go to the dirty areas of the ice.

The young winger seemed more comfortable in the flow of the game and showed flashes of the top-tier sniper the Devils believed he could become when they drafted him. If his trajectory continues, Holtz could become a major piece in the team’s long-term offensive core.

Unsung Hero: Erik Haula

While the spotlight often shined on younger stars, Erik Haula did the dirty work that doesn’t always show up on the scoresheet. Whether it was taking key faceoffs, killing penalties, or mentoring younger players, Haula brought a lunch-pail mentality to the Devils’ bottom six.

He embodied the kind of veteran presence every contending team needs—a glue guy who makes everyone around him better and shows up every night with purpose.

Rookie of the Year: Simon Nemec

Simon Nemec, the highly touted defense prospect, didn’t disappoint in his rookie campaign. Calm under pressure and effective at both ends of the ice, Nemec quickly found his place in the lineup and never looked back.

His decision-making and ability to transition the puck cleanly made him a valuable asset on the back end, and his chemistry with Luke Hughes gave the Devils a glimpse of what could be an elite defensive tandem for years to come.

Fan Favorite: Timo Meier

Timo Meier might not have led the team in scoring, but his physicality, hard-nosed play style, and clutch performances in big moments made him a fan favorite at Prudential Center. Whether he was throwing a big hit or battling in front of the net, Meier brought intensity and effort every night—qualities that Devils fans have always embraced.

As the team looks to climb further up the standings next season, Meier will no doubt continue to play a critical leadership role both on and off the ice.

Final Thoughts: A Season to Build On

While the Devils fell short of the ultimate goal, the 2024-25 season wasn’t without its milestones and moments of promise. From Hughes’ brilliance to the emergence of future stars on defense, the foundation is clearly there. With another offseason to retool, the Devils are poised to come back hungrier, tougher, and more prepared for a deep playoff run.

For fans across New Jersey, the future is bright—and these season awards are a reminder that even in a season of ups and downs, the journey is worth celebrating.

NJ Devils Offseason Outlook

The New Jersey Devils’ 2024-25 campaign is officially in the books. While the year included a playoff return and signs of development, it ended with more questions than answers—and now, the spotlight shifts to General Manager Tom Fitzgerald and newly-installed head coach Sheldon Keefe as they prepare to address the media.

This week’s end-of-season press conference isn’t just a formality. It’s a pivotal opportunity to take accountability, set expectations, and outline the vision moving forward. Devils fans, already deeply engaged in analyzing what went wrong and what must improve, are eager to hear specifics—not platitudes.

So, if we had a seat in the room, here’s what we’d be asking.

1. Where Does the Scoring Go From Here?

In 2022-23, the Devils ranked fourth in the NHL in goals per game. Two seasons later, they’ve plummeted to 20th. That’s not just a blip—that’s a trend. It’s also the single biggest reason they exited the playoffs early.

What’s behind the slide? Injuries to key players certainly played a role, but there’s more to the story. The power play sputtered (especially in the Carolina series), and the team often overpassed, trying to create highlight-reel goals instead of grinding for greasy ones. Too often, chances went unfinished or fizzled before a shot even reached the net.

Fitzgerald and Keefe need to address whether this was a systemic issue, a personnel problem, or both. What’s being done to simplify offensive zone play, create more net-front presence, and ensure the puck is actually going toward the crease?

2. What’s the Plan for the Bottom Six?

If the top six forwards are expected to drive scoring, the bottom six needs to bring identity—and right now, the Devils don’t have one.

The third and fourth lines were a patchwork of veterans, placeholders, and question marks. The current mix—Curtis Lazar, Erik Haula, Nathan Bastian, Tomas Tatar—offered little cohesion or consistency. They weren’t feared defensively, they weren’t dangerous offensively, and they weren’t particularly physical. That has to change.

Are we aiming for a shutdown line? A forechecking group that tilts the ice? Or just capable skaters who won’t hurt the team? Clarity here matters, especially if prospects like Arseni Gritsyuk or Lenni Hämeenaho are going to be given legitimate opportunities.

3. What Happened After Christmas?

Pre-Christmas Devils? A fast, fun, high-octane team that looked like a legitimate Eastern Conference threat. Post-Christmas Devils? Disjointed, inconsistent, and often flat.

The drop-off was as dramatic as it was puzzling. Shot share, expected goals, and overall pace cratered. Worse yet, it wasn’t all about injuries. Key players were still in the lineup. The schedule wasn’t unforgiving. And some of the worst losses came against struggling teams.

We’d love to hear Keefe’s diagnosis. Was it a matter of fatigue? Preparation? Coaching adjustments that didn’t land? The post-holiday collapse was too severe to be dismissed as “one of those things.” It demands introspection—and a clear plan to prevent it from happening again.

4. Are You Truly Satisfied With Player Buy-In?

Last year, Fitzgerald made cryptic comments about gym work and team culture. If there was a problem then, was it resolved this year? Did the leadership group step up? Were offseason expectations met?

From the outside, the 2024-25 squad appeared locked in during training camp and the first half of the season. But as adversity mounted, cracks formed. Was the internal accountability strong enough? Did the locker room keep its edge?

This team is transitioning from “young and promising” to “expected to compete.” With that shift comes the need for mature, driven leadership from top to bottom.

5. What’s the Timeline for Luke Hughes’ New Contract?

Let’s not beat around the bush—Luke Hughes is the future of the blue line. Getting him locked into a long-term deal should be a priority, ideally this summer.

A deal in the range of eight years and $8.5 million AAV, similar to what Brock Faber got in Minnesota, feels like the right move. It secures a franchise cornerstone and avoids the bridge-deal trap that can lead to ballooning salaries later.

We’re not expecting Fitzgerald to negotiate in public, but fans deserve to know how close both sides are and if a long-term commitment is truly the goal.

6. How Does the Cap Crunch Affect the Offseason?

The Devils’ cap situation will shape everything that happens this summer. With significant money already committed—and potential raises for Hughes and others—it’s clear that tough choices are coming.

That brings us to Jake Allen. Projected at around $3.5 million, he might be too expensive for a backup, especially with Nico Daws waiting in the wings. Is Fitzgerald willing to gamble on a Daws/Markstrom tandem, or is a more stable veteran still on the wishlist?

More importantly, is the front office ready to lean into cheap youth like Gritsyuk, Hämeenaho, or Shane Lachance to fill out the roster? If so, those young players must be ready—not just cost-effective.

7. Can Fitzgerald Make the Tough Cuts This Summer?

Every team preaches “culture,” but the best GMs know when to get ruthless. Fitzgerald has proven he can be a persuasive recruiter—but can he play the bad cop too?

That might mean moving on from Ondrej Palat, Erik Haula, or even Dougie Hamilton, if it opens up the cap space needed to build a deeper, more competitive roster. These aren’t easy moves. But if the Devils want to make serious noise in 2025-26, they can’t let loyalty—or past success—block progress.

Other organizations like Vegas or the Rangers have shown that tough love often leads to results. It’s time for Fitzgerald to show he can do the same.

Closing Thoughts: What Fans Deserve

Thursday’s media availability isn’t just about wrapping up a season—it’s about setting the tone for the next one. Devils fans are smart, loyal, and hungry for a contender. They deserve real answers, honest accountability, and a clear blueprint for building a better team.

We’ll be watching closely to see what Tom Fitzgerald and Sheldon Keefe have to say. And more importantly, whether their actions this offseason match their words.

GOP Gubernatorial Debate Highlights Stark Divides Among New Jersey Republicans

Explore New Jersey Politics: Where the GOP Stands in 2025

The Republican race for New Jersey governor took center stage in a televised debate Wednesday night that brought clarity—if not consensus—on where the major candidates stand. In a state where party identity is evolving, the NJ PBS Republican Gubernatorial Debate offered a revealing look at the ideological rifts within the GOP.

The hour-long debate featured three contenders who’ve each carved out distinctly different paths within the Republican Party: State Senator Jon Bramnick, former Assemblyman and 2021 nominee Jack Ciattarelli, and conservative radio personality Bill Spadea.

While candidates typically sidestep sharp distinctions during debates, this one was different. It laid bare the ideological spectrum within New Jersey’s Republican base—from traditional moderates to unapologetic far-right populists.

A Party Divided: From Compassion to Combat

If this debate had a theme, it was clear: The soul of New Jersey’s GOP is up for grabs.

Jon Bramnick, often dubbed the “last moderate,” stood out as the most centrist—or even left-leaning—voice on stage, at least by MAGA standards. Referencing former Governor Thomas H. Kean Sr.’s book The Politics of Inclusion, Bramnick pushed for empathy and a more inclusive Republican message.

“If the Republican Party does not show empathy, we’re going to get beat,” Bramnick warned. “That’s why Democrats fear me the most.”

On the opposite end of the spectrum stood Bill Spadea, an outspoken populist who framed his campaign in culture war rhetoric and hardline immigration policies. His position? The party needs to go further right—not back off.

Jack Ciattarelli, who nearly unseated Governor Phil Murphy in 2021, tried to thread the needle. He emphasized pragmatic conservatism, distancing himself from extremes while still maintaining appeal to the GOP base.

Key Policy Clashes: Medicaid, Immigration, and Identity

Medicaid & Medicare Cuts

When asked about potential cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, proposed by the Trump administration, the divide became sharp:

  • Bramnick called the cuts “devastating,” especially for seniors and low-income families in New Jersey.
  • Ciattarelli expressed concern about waste in the programs but emphasized the need to protect the most vulnerable.
  • Spadea dismissed both concerns, instead proposing a radical overhaul that he dubbed “New Jersey’s own version of DOGE” (a reference to decentralized, local governance and spending, inspired by libertarian crypto culture).

Immigration Debate

On immigration, things got even more heated. Bramnick insisted on due process for everyone, including undocumented immigrants.

Spadea pushed back hard, labeling those here illegally as “invaders” who don’t deserve constitutional protections. He even quoted a 1949 dissent by Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson to argue that constitutional fidelity can be dangerous in times of crisis—a controversial stance, especially from someone with a media background.

Ciattarelli landed in the middle, acknowledging that mass deportations would harm the state economy but expressing faith in federal handling of the issue.

The Loyalty Question: Will They Back the Nominee?

The debate culminated in a telling moment: Would the candidates support the eventual winner of the primary on June 11?

  • Bramnick and Ciattarelli immediately said yes.
  • Spadea, notably, refused.

Instead, he turned the spotlight back on Ciattarelli, claiming his rival “did not want my support, nor President Trump’s support, in 2021.” Ciattarelli called it a lie. Spadea fired back with the same accusation. And just like that, the debate ended—with a bitter exchange, not unity.

What’s Next for the GOP in New Jersey?

This debate was more than just a campaign event—it was a microcosm of the current identity struggle inside the Republican Party. With former President Trump’s influence still looming large, New Jersey Republicans must choose between three very different visions for the party’s future:

  • Bramnick is the bridge-builder, hoping to reclaim the center.
  • Ciattarelli is the pragmatic conservative, hoping to finish what he started in 2021.
  • Spadea is the insurgent, challenging the system from the right.

Notably absent from the stage were Justin Barbera of Southampton and former Englewood Cliffs Mayor Mario Kranjac, who will appear on the June ballot but failed to meet the $580,000 fundraising threshold required by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission to qualify for public matching funds and participate in the debate.

This event, hosted by NJ PBS in partnership with WNYC Radio, was part of the mandatory public appearances for candidates receiving public financing. Moderators David Cruz and Michael Hill ensured that each candidate had the opportunity to present their vision, challenge their opponents, and show New Jersey voters exactly who they are.

Final Takeaway

The June 11 primary will be more than a contest of personalities—it will be a referendum on the direction of the Republican Party in New Jersey. Will voters reward moderation, pragmatism, or ideological purity?

Whatever the outcome, this debate made one thing clear: the stakes are high, the contrasts are sharp, and the future of the GOP in the Garden State hangs in the balance.

Maplewood Film Society’s ‘Wild at Heart’ Screening and Community Advocacy

Experience a Night of Cinematic Magic at The Woodland

On Friday, May 16, 2025, the Maplewood Film Society invites film enthusiasts to an exclusive screening of Wild at Heart, the 1990 cult classic directed by David Lynch. This special event will take place at The Woodland, a historic venue nestled in the heart of Maplewood, New Jersey. The screening promises an immersive experience, featuring the film’s original stars—Nicolas Cage, Laura Dern, Willem Dafoe, and Isabella Rossellini—in a tale that intertwines romance, rebellion, and surrealism.

Following the film, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a panel discussion with writers and film aficionados, delving into the making of Wild at Heart and exploring Lynch’s profound impact on 1990s culture. To add a touch of fun, audience members are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Lynch character, with special door prizes awaiting the most creative costumes.

Advocating for Maplewood’s Cultural Heritage

In conjunction with the screening, the Maplewood Film Society is championing the preservation of the community’s historic movie theater. Residents are urged to sign a petition urging the Maplewood Township Committee to revisit and revise the current Movie Theater Redevelopment Plan.

Key Requests Include:

  • Guaranteed Community Cultural Space: Ensuring that the redevelopment includes a dedicated space within the Maplewood Movie Theater Building for community-driven entertainment or cultural arts activities.
  • Historic Preservation Oversight: Involving the Township’s Historic Preservation Commission in advising the developer on design plans and being part of the formal approval process.
  • Increased Transparency: Revealing all public incentives offered to the developer and involving the community in discussions about negotiated “give-backs.” Additionally, making available all engineering reports related to demolition proposals for public review.

Why This Matters:

  • Cultural Heritage: The buildings slated for redevelopment hold significant cultural and historical value to the Township, particularly the movie theater, which has been a gathering place for generations.
  • Economic Impact: Preserving historically significant buildings supports local businesses, attracts tourism, and fosters community pride, while ensuring that new developments respect the architectural integrity of the town.
  • Community Connection: The centrally located Village movie theater site should include a community space with amenities for public enjoyment, preventing a void that could arise from focusing solely on restaurants and multi-family housing.
  • Educational Value: Preserving historic buildings offers educational opportunities for younger generations to connect with the past, fostering curiosity and providing knowledge about the historical and architectural significance of Maplewood.
  • Sustainability: Adaptive reuse of historic buildings is environmentally sustainable, utilizing existing structures built with high-quality materials that are not readily available or cost-prohibitive today.

Residents and supporters of Maplewood are encouraged to take immediate action to amend the Redevelopment Plan before irreversible changes are made to the northern part of The Village. This plan will influence the town’s architecture and character for decades, making it imperative to ensure that Maplewood’s historic and cultural integrity is preserved.

Event Details:

  • Film Screening: Wild at Heart
  • Date: Friday, May 16, 2025
  • Venue: The Woodland, Maplewood, NJ
  • Post-Film Discussion: Panel with writers and film aficionados
  • Dress Code: Costumes inspired by David Lynch characters encouraged
  • Special Prizes: Awarded for best costumes
  • Petition Signing: Advocating for the preservation of the historic movie theater

Join the Maplewood Film Society for an evening that celebrates cinematic artistry and community heritage. Your participation not only enriches the cultural fabric of Maplewood but also contributes to the preservation of its historical landmarks for future generations.

Sign the petition to protect our historic village and ensure community space.

By signing this petition, I urge the Maplewood Township Committee to revisit and revise the Movie Theater Redevelopment Plan

OUR REQUESTS

  1. Guaranteed Community Cultural Space: In addition to housing, retail and restaurants within the two acre development area, the [site’s] developer(s) must provide a dedicated space within lot 175 (Maplewood Movie Theater Building) for a community-driven entertainment or cultural arts space.
  2. Historic Preservation Oversight: As part of the Maplewood Village Historic District the Township’s Historic Preservation Commission must be involved and advise the developer on their design plans and be involved in the formal approval process.
  3. Increase transparency: Reveal all public incentives being offered to the developer, and involve the community in determining the “give-backs” negotiated with the developer in exchange. Also, reveal all engineering reports created by the developers that propose demolition, and corroborate those with reports engaged on behalf of the community.

WHY THIS MATTERS

  • Cultural Heritage: The buildings to be redeveloped hold significant cultural and historical value to the Township as outlined in the Township’s Master Plan. The movie theater in particular has been a gathering place for generations. The Redevelopment Plan should honor its past and secure the community’s future by including a carve-out in the Plan requirements for a community hub or “third space” dedicated to entertainment and culture.
  • Economic Impact: Preserving historically significant buildings supports local businesses, attracts tourism, reaffirms the values of our community, and encourages development while respecting the architectural and design integrity of our town. Protecting this section of the historic Village would generate more local jobs and foster community pride.
  • Community Connection: The Village movie theater site is centrally located in the Township and should include a community space with amenities for the public to enjoy. A Redevelopment Plan that only contemplates restaurants and multi-family housing would leave a “third space” void that cannot be easily replaced.
  • Educational Value: The preservation of historic buildings offers educational opportunities for younger generations to connect with the past, fostering curiosity and providing knowledge about the historical and architectural significance of the Maplewood we know and love today.
  • Sustainability: Adaptive reuse of historic buildings is the most environmentally sustainable option and contributes to the long-term sustainability of our community. Using existing historic structures built with high quality building materials that are not readily available and/or cost-prohibitive today is always greener than new construction.

We, the residents and supporters of Maplewood, urge our elected officials to take immediate action to amend the Redevelopment Plan before irreversible changes are made to the northern part of The Village. This Redevelopment Plan will guide our town’s architecture and character for decades. We must ensure that Maplewood’s historic and cultural integrity is protected in all that is allowed to be built.

Peonies at Peony

10 Expert Tips for Growing Beautiful Peonies at Home – Unlock the Secret to Stunning Spring Blooms in Your Own Garden

Springtime in New Jersey is a celebration of color, fragrance, and renewal—and few blooms embody that beauty more than the peony. With their lush petals, sweet scent, and old-world charm, peonies are a must-have for any home garden. Whether you’re planting them in your backyard, front garden, or even a raised bed, these ten essential tips will help you nurture show-stopping blooms year after year.

At Explore New Jersey, we’re here to help you connect with nature and create spaces that feel as vibrant as our great Garden State. Here’s how to grow peonies like a pro—from soil prep to bloom time.

🌸 1. Start with Soil That’s Rich and Ready

Peonies thrive in well-drained, nutrient-dense soil. To prepare the perfect planting bed, mix your garden soil with one-third organic compost and worm castings. You’re aiming for a mud-pie texture—rich, dark, and crumbly. This gives your peony roots a soft start and a healthy foundation for years of growth.

🌿 2. Dig Deep for Long-Term Success

Peonies aren’t shallow growers—they need room to stretch. When planting bare root peonies, dig a hole approximately 12 inches deep and 12 inches wide. This ensures proper root development and prevents overcrowding. A well-prepared hole now means stronger stems and more blooms later.

🚫 3. Skip the Mulch

It may seem counterintuitive, but peonies actually prefer to go mulch-free. While many plants benefit from mulch’s moisture-retaining qualities, peonies require excellent drainage. Mulch can trap moisture and lead to rot—so keep the soil around your peony plants clean and clear.

☀️ 4. Let the Sunshine In

Peonies love the spotlight—literally. Plant them in full sun whenever possible. Six hours of sunlight per day is ideal. Some varieties can handle partial shade, but for the fullest blooms and strongest stems, choose the sunniest spot in your yard.

✂️ 5. Keep it Clean: Fall & Spring Maintenance

In the fall, cut peony plants all the way to the ground. This simple step helps prevent disease and sets the stage for healthy growth next season. Come March, take a leaf blower or gently clear out any leftover debris around your peony beds to give them a fresh start.

💐 6. Bring the Beauty Indoors

Peonies make excellent cut flowers—and harvesting them doesn’t hurt the plant. In fact, you can cut about half of your crop to enjoy indoors. Fill your home with fragrance and color by placing fresh peonies in vases throughout your living spaces.

🌸 7. Cut Smart: Bud Stage is Best

For indoor arrangements, don’t wait for your peonies to fully open. Cut them while the buds are still closed but showing a hint of color. This not only helps the blooms last longer indoors—it also keeps those pesky ants from joining your dinner table.

❄️ 8. Cool Temps, Fresh Water = Longer Vase Life

Once inside, keep your cut peonies away from direct heat and sunlight. Treat them to cool indoor temperatures and refresh the water in their vase every couple of days. This little TLC helps extend their beauty.

⏳ 9. Plant for a Season-Long Show

Don’t just grab the prettiest peony in the catalog and call it a day. To get the most out of your garden, mix early, mid-season, and late-blooming varieties. This staggered approach means you’ll enjoy a longer display of peony blooms from late spring into early summer.

🌱 10. Patience Pays Off

Peonies are a long game. Don’t panic if the first season feels underwhelming. In year one, they focus on establishing strong roots. In year two, you’ll see green shoots. By the third spring, those glorious blooms you’ve been dreaming of will finally arrive. Trust the process—it’s worth the wait.

🌼 Final Thoughts: Why Peonies Are Perfect for New Jersey Gardens

Peonies are low-maintenance, cold-hardy, and built to thrive in New Jersey’s seasonal climate. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just planting your first perennial bed, these floral powerhouses bring joy and beauty year after year.

So this season, take a cue from the Garden State itself—dig deep, plant with care, and watch something beautiful grow.

Ciattarelli’s Vision for New Jersey: A Commitment to Local Communities and Fiscal Reform

Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, is actively engaging with New Jersey residents to discuss pressing state issues. During a recent meet-and-greet at Alstede Farms in Chester, Ciattarelli emphasized his dedication to addressing local concerns and improving the state’s economic landscape.

Engaging with Local Communities

At Alstede Farms, a beloved local attraction, Ciattarelli interacted with attendees, including Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia, who represents Legislative District 24 encompassing Sussex and western Morris counties. Fantasia commended Ciattarelli for his understanding of rural communities and their unique challenges. She highlighted the need for state leaders to respect and support farming communities, which often feel overlooked by urban-centric policies.

Ciattarelli’s campaign continues to focus on connecting with local leaders and residents, aiming to bring attention to the issues that matter most to New Jerseyans.

Addressing Property Taxes and School Funding

A cornerstone of Ciattarelli’s platform is reforming New Jersey’s property tax system. He proposes overhauling the state’s school funding formula, which he argues disproportionately benefits urban districts like Jersey City. Ciattarelli contends that this inequitable distribution leads to higher property taxes in suburban areas.

By advocating for a more equitable school funding model, Ciattarelli aims to alleviate the tax burden on homeowners and ensure fairer distribution of state resources across all districts.

Critique of State Bureaucracy

During his visit, local mayors and council members expressed frustrations with state mandates and the complexities of dealing with state bureaucracy. Ciattarelli acknowledged these concerns, drawing from his experience as a former local official. He emphasized the importance of listening to local leaders and working collaboratively to streamline processes and reduce unnecessary red tape.

Looking Ahead to the Primary

With the Republican primary scheduled for June 10, Ciattarelli remains focused on his campaign’s objectives. While not delving deeply into discussions about his primary opponents, he expressed confidence in his position, citing favorable polling data. Ciattarelli’s campaign continues to prioritize issues such as property tax reform, economic development, and enhancing local governance.

As the election approaches, Ciattarelli’s engagement with New Jersey communities underscores his commitment to addressing the state’s challenges through local collaboration and thoughtful policy reform.
