A Taste of Puerto Rico Arrives in Teaneck as The Freakin Rican Debuts Its Second Location
Teaneck’s dining scene is about to get a vibrant new addition as The Freakin Rican, the beloved Puerto Rican eatery known for its soulful, homestyle cooking, officially opens its doors on Cedar Lane. Already a hit in Astoria, Queens, the restaurant is bringing its celebrated menu, rich cultural flavors, and warm hospitality to Bergen County—with limited dinner hours beginning Wednesday, December 3.
Nestled at 468 Cedar Lane, in the former Bischoff’s space, the new location gives North Jersey residents a chance to enjoy the dishes that made The Freakin Rican a sensation in New York. For local food lovers and anyone seeking standout cuisine just minutes from the heart of town, this opening marks one of the most exciting arrivals of the season. It also adds fresh energy to Teaneck’s growing lineup of dining destinations, a topic often highlighted in Restaurants for those always on the lookout for their next great meal.
The Freakin Rican was founded in 2014 by Executive Chef Derick Lopez, who first introduced his recipes to New Yorkers through street fair stands before expanding into a full restaurant, catering service, YouTube channel, and line of food products. His story blends culinary tradition with entrepreneurial savvy, transforming the brand into a powerhouse of authentic Puerto Rican cooking.
Visitors to the Teaneck restaurant can expect the classics that have made the brand famous: slow-roasted pernil with impossibly tender pork, crispy alcapurrias, comforting pastelón layered with sweetness and spice, and silky-smooth mofongo served the way it’s meant to be—with bold flavor and heart. Traditional desserts—those nostalgic, family-rooted favorites—round out the menu with the warmth and sweetness characteristic of Puerto Rican cuisine.
Beginning December 3, dinner service will run from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., with expanded hours expected as the restaurant settles into the community. Whether you’re a longtime fan from Queens or discovering the brand for the first time, the Teaneck location offers a fresh, convenient way to enjoy dishes that feel both celebratory and comforting.
With this second location now taking shape, The Freakin Rican brings a lively, cultural dining experience to northern New Jersey—one where every plate tells a story of heritage, flavor, and the passion of Chef Lopez. And for Bergen County’s food enthusiasts, it’s another reason to explore Teaneck’s diverse and evolving restaurant landscape.
