SUMMARY:How My Grandparents Fell in Love
DESCRIPTION:A Timeless Romance Blooms in the Shadow of History: “How My Grandparents Fell in Love” at NJ Rep\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew Jersey’s vibrant arts scene consistently offers captivating experiences\, and this summer\, theater enthusiasts are in for a treat with the world premiere of “How My Grandparents Fell in Love” at the New Jersey Repertory Company (NJ Rep) in Long Branch. This heartwarming new musical\, with book and lyrics by Cary Gitter and music and lyrics by Neil Berg\, promises to transport audiences to a pivotal moment in history\, all while celebrating the enduring power of love. \n\n\n\nUnder the skillful direction of SuzAnne Barabas\, “How My Grandparents Fell in Love” takes us back to 1933 in Rovno\, Poland. Here\, we meet Charlie\, a Polish-born Jew who\, after a decade in America\, returns to his homeland with a singular purpose: to find a bride. His journey leads him to Chava\, a spirited young woman working in a hat shop\, whose deepest desire is to become a scholar. Their burgeoning connection is the heart of the story\, a tender romance unfolding against the stark and unsettling backdrop of rising anti-Semitism across Europe. This historical context provides a powerful layer to their personal dreams\, creating a narrative that is both intimate and deeply resonant. \n\n\n\nThe production boasts a talented cast bringing this compelling story to life. Harris Milgrim steps into the role of Charlie\, while Becca Suskauer embodies Chava. Behind the scenes\, the creative team further elevates the experience: Jordan Ryder’s choreography adds an expressive dimension\, Aaron Benham leads the musical direction\, and the visual landscape is meticulously crafted by Jessica Parks (Set Design)\, Jill Nagle (Lighting Design)\, and Patricia E. Doherty (Costume Design). Nick Simone’s sound design\, Rose Riccardi as Production Stage Manager\, and Ian Duhart as Assistant Stage Manager ensure a seamless performance. Matthew Lowy serves as Music Supervisor\, with Janey Huber as Assistant Lighting Design and James Lockhart as Master Electrician\, all contributing to the rich tapestry of this production. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re looking for a poignant love story\, a glimpse into a crucial historical period\, or simply an exceptional theatrical performance\, “How My Grandparents Fell in Love” offers a unique and engaging experience. The show runs from July 17th to August 10th\, 2025. Performances are scheduled for Thursdays at 7:00 PM\, and Fridays\, Saturdays\, and Sundays with both 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM showings. The running time is approximately 2 hours\, including a brief intermission. Please note\, the production carries an advisory for Adult\, Teen\, and Pre-Teen audiences due to adult language\, sexual themes\, and violence. \n\n\n\nThis musical delves into powerful themes of love\, resilience\, and the human spirit’s ability to endure amidst historical upheaval. Early critical responses highlight the charm and heartwarming nature of Charlie and Chava’s love story\, acknowledging the masterful way it interweaves with the looming historical realities. While the performances and musical elements have received significant praise\, the production is noted for its ongoing development in seamlessly blending its romantic core with the gravity of its historical setting. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss the opportunity to witness this impactful new work. Tickets can be conveniently purchased online directly through the New Jersey Repertory Company website\, or by calling 732-229-3166. SUMMARY:Dramarama
DESCRIPTION:DRAMARAMA\nA DRAMARAMA WEEKEND\, AUG. 9 & 10 AT THE WONDER BAR\nTWO NIGHTS\, TWO DIFFERENT SHOWS FEATURING TWO GREAT DRAMARAMA ALBUMS\nOn Saturday the band will play Color TV in its entirety and on Sunday night the band performs Stuck in Wonderamaland in its entirety plus both nights feature your fave Dramarama songs plus tracks from each one of their albums. This has never happened before and may never happen again!\nRooted in distorted grit\, punk energy\, and American songbook eloquence\, and sporting three of the original “four-ish” members (“four-ish\,” you ask? Well\, they didn’t start out with a permanent drummer)\, Dramarama has always been both classic and cutting-edge. This iconic alternative rock group was formed in the basement of a record store in Wayne\, New Jersey by John Easdale [singer\, songwriter]\, Mark Englert [lead\, rhythm guitar]\, Peter Wood [lead\, rhythm guitar]\, and have\, for the past 18-plus years\, been joined by Mike Davis [bass] and Tony Snow [drums]\, who not only preserve but strengthen the spirit that established Dramarama as a history making force in 1982.\nAs the story goes\, John\, Peter and Mark traded New Jersey for Los Angeles. Long before the nineties alt rock radio boom\, the West Coast initially embraced the group’s single\, “Anything\, Anything (I’ll Give You…)” (off their 1985 debut\, Cinéma Vérité)\, as the de facto anthem of the nascent alternative nation. It notably made history as one of the most requested songs of all time on KROQ 106.7 FM in Los Angeles. It could also be heard loud and clear everywhere from A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master to HBO’s Entourage. And although Dramarama has yet to become a household name (still the next big thing)\, Easdale’s work has been cited as an influence on several major bands of the last three decades.\nOn the heels of Cinéma Vérité’s success the band delivered a decade of fan favorite albums: Box Office Bomb [1987]\, Stuck in Wonderamaland [1989]\, Vinyl [1991] and Hi-Fi Sci-Fi [1993]\, and after a 10-year hiatus served up Everybody Dies in 2005. As their legacy solidified\, more critical praise followed. The Chicago Sun Times christened them “one of America’s best rock bands” and the Los Angeles Times proclaimed Easdale “one of the finest singer/songwriters of these times.” And the praise continues as Dramarama’s latest release\, Color TV\, was named one of the Top 10 Albums of 2020 by legendary music journalist and critic Robert Christgau.\nThe band is having more fun than ever and exudes a confidence and ease that can only come through experience and mutual respect. As Easdale puts it\, “Few things compare to that sense of uninhibitedness you feel during a great show — waving your fist\, stomping your feet\, singing out loud and not [caring] about anything but the music. I’m proud to say that this is the feeling experienced by both the band and audience at the vast majority of Dramarama live shows — fast\, tight\, loud\, sweaty sing-a-longs. EVERY time we play\, the audience’s pleasure is our primary concern.”

SUMMARY:The Weight Band
DESCRIPTION:Performing their current album\, Shines Like Gold\, as well as classic songs of The Band\, The Weight Band is led by Jim Weider\, a 15-year former member of The Band and the Levon Helm Band. The Weight Band originated in 2013 inside the famed Woodstock barn of Levon Helm. Weider was inspired by Helm to carry on the musical legacy of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group.\nYears of touring have seen The Weight Band revive “The Woodstock Sound\,” keeping the spirit of Americana/Roots Rock alive for audiences of all ages. They continue to keep the sound vibrant by releasing new music\, evidenced by the album World Gone Mad (February 2018.) Their live set features Weight Band songs from the new album as well as fan favorites from The Band’s treasured catalog\, including “Up On Cripple Creek\,” “The Weight\,” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”\nThe Weight Band includes Brian Mitchell (The Levon Helm Band)\, Michael Bram (Jason Mraz)\, Matt Zeiner (Dickey Betts Band)\, and Albert Rogers (The Jim Weider Band). With a US and international tour schedule slated for 2019 and beyond\, The Weight Band complements The Band’s timeless legacy while pushing the music forward for new audiences.\nBillboard\, Relix Magazine\, and others have taken notice\, as have generations of The Band fans who have yearned for new material since their last studio release almost 20 years ago. The Boston Globe proclaims World Gone Mad “strikes a chord between past & present\,” and the Chicago Tribune says “The Weight carries on where The Band left off.” Goldmine Magazine cited World Gone Mad as one of the best indie albums of 2018\, saying the group “effectively revives and recreates The Band’s original rustic sound as a successor [and] keeps that arcane spirit alive!”

SUMMARY:The Jacksons
DESCRIPTION:Jackie\, Tito\, Jermaine\, Marlon and Michael\, five brothers from Gary\, Indiana\, known originally as The Jackson 5 and later The Jacksons\, rose to fame for their combination of extraordinary musical talent and spectacular choreography. They earned the status of pop royalty in the music world\, providing the launching pad for what would become Michael Jackson’s legendary solo career. The group found international success at Motown in 1969\, their first single “I Want You Back” reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their next 3 singles “ABC”\, “The Love You Save” and “I’ll Be There” followed suit\, The Jackson 5 literally making music history with 4 debut singles all reaching No. 1. They ultimately scored 17 Top Forty singles on the Hot 100\, following with hits such as “Never Can Say Goodbye” and “Dancing Machine”. To date\, their Motown recordings alone have sold in excess of 200 million. The Jacksons have become the inspiration for several generations of boy bands\, including Backstreet Boys\, New Edition\, N*SYNC\, New Kids on the Block\, and more recently\, the Jonas Brothers\, One Direction\, and many more. In 1980\, The Jacksons were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997\, and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. At the BMI Urban Awards in 2008\, The Jacksons were honored as BMI Icons. In 2016\, “ABC” joined “I Want You Back” to be inducted into the Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall of Fame. The upcoming “Michael” movie will heavily feature members of The Jacksons/Jackson 5. With the tragic passing of Tito Jackson\, Tito’s son Tarryl Jackson and additional first-class singers including Haydon Eshun who performed lead in the Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ Musical in London’s West End for over 10 years will perform alongside Marlon and Jackie Jackson. The show includes plenty of additional video footage to accompany the strong performances from the classic days of The Jackson 5 performing with Michael. This is an evening you’ll never forget featuring hit after hit!
