This dynamic event is presented in collaboration with OUTPOST NYC DCG. \n\n\n\nFestival Highlights: \n\n\n\n\nShowRoom Cinema at 707 Cookman Avenue\, just one block from the train station\, will screen a comprehensive retrospective of Mekas’s films.\n\n\n\nParlor Gallery\, located at 717 Cookman Avenue\, will feature an exclusive exhibition of Jonas Mekas’s still-framed photographs\, with an opening reception on the first evening of the festival.\n\n\n\n\nAbout Jonas Mekas:Born in 1922 in Lithuania\, Jonas Mekas immigrated to the U.S. in 1949 and became a central figure in the avant-garde film movement. He co-founded Film Culture magazine\, was a pioneering film columnist for The Village Voice\, and played a pivotal role in establishing Anthology Film Archives. Mekas’s films have been exhibited globally at venues like the Venice Biennale\, MoMA\, Tate Modern\, and Centre Pompidou. He also influenced countless filmmakers\, including Jim Jarmusch\, John Waters\, and Chantal Akerman. \n\n\n\nMekas’s creative exploration of personal\, poetic expression through cinema continues to inspire generations of artists.
