Prosecutors claim that between 2018 and 2022, Menendez and his wife, Nadine Arslanian, engaged in a corrupt relationship with three fellow associates and businessmen from New Jersey.

The couple accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes in exchange for using Menendez’s power and influence as a senator to protect the three associates, Jose Uribe, Wael Ahana, and Fred Daibes, and the Arab Republic of Egypt, according to an indictment.

Menendez is accused of taking bribes from Uribe, Ahana, and Daibes, including cash, gold bars, payments towards a home mortgage, compensation for a low-or-no-show job, and luxury vehicles.

Federal prosecutors allege that Arslanian and Hana collaborated to introduce Egyptian intelligence and military officials to Menendez.

The purpose was to establish and solidify a corrupt agreement in which Hana, with assistance from Daibes and Uribe, provided thousands of dollars in bribes to Menendez and his wife, according to the indictment.
