N.J. camp counselor admits sexually assaulting 3 children, prosecutors say

A former counselor at a New Jersey summer camp admitted Wednesday that he inappropriately touched three child campers last year, authorities said.

Joshua F. Daranijo, 24, of Levittown, Pennsylvania, admitted in court to sexual contact with children under the age of 13, and to possessing child sexual abuse material while a camp counselor at Ridgewood YMCA’s Camp Bernie in Lebanon Township, according to a statement from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office. He pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault by contact and one count of endangering the welfare of a child for knowingly possessing items depicting the sexual exploitation of a child.

Ridgewood YMCA President and CEO Ernest Lamour told lehighvalleylive.com that when it was reported a Camp Bernie staff member “acted inappropriately with children at the camp,” authorities and families were notified, and the staff member was immediately placed on leave.
