“Billions Made off This Game…”: After Tearing His ACL Twice, Odell Beckham Jr. Angrily Rants on MetLife Stadium After “Rough” Turf Claims Another Player’s Season

In the game against the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Giants’ star wide receiver Sterling Shepard sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his left knee. The Cowboys won the game with a score of 23-16. The teams played the game at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Monday. It is synthetic turf. Conversations surrounding if playing on a grass field can prevent injuries rose. And now the Super Bowl-winning wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr., who also suffered an ACL tear right after the Super Bowl LVI, has joined the conversation.

The wideout suffered a non-contact injury. There always have been concerns and debates as to which field is better: a natural grass field or a synthetic turf. Many athletes will agree that synthetic fields are more harmful to the body. While stumping on a synthetic surface, the ankle and knee absorb more pressure. Thus, opening doors for serious wounds. The NFLPA has urged every team to convert to grass fields instead of artificial ones.

Many consider the MetLife Stadium a cursed one because a number of athletes succumbed to injuries while playing on the field. In 2020, five San Francisco 49ers players exited the game because of lower body injuries while playing against the New York Jets. Baltimore Ravens cornerback Kyle Fuller also tore his ACL at this stadium.

Odell Beckham Jr. took to Twitter to express his anger on seeing another athlete succumbing to a non-contact injury. OBJ is currently a free agent. Much like the veteran wideout of the New York Giants, Beckham also suffered an ACL tear in the second quarter of the Super Bowl game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
